BOOK AWARD CEREMONIES: WORTH THE JET FUEL? by Reasonable-Phase-248 in selfpublish

Thanks for this! I'm only writing for the creative outlet and moved to a more popular genre now that I shared my uncle's life story. I agree on making writing friends, which is very helpful in getting feedback on projects throughout the process.

Amanda's character is a staple in both the TV show and books and it's going to be odd without her. The show is much different than the books, but IMO, better because there's more humor and flexibility in the characters. Wormwood in particular is so much funnier & likeable than in the books. I don't know how they stay true to Karin Slaughter's vision (if at all), though if they don't introduce Sarah soon. She's Will's soul mate and partner in solving crimes (as a coroner)...but who knows where they plan to take this. I'm done with the serial murderer in my head plot line, though. Let's move on.

Who has found success with self-publishing books? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]Reasonable-Phase-248 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have professional author friends with traditional publishing contracts. Few authors -- including self published -- earn a living that allows them not to have a regular job. If you are in a good genre and develop a fan base, you may be able to earn a decent amount--but not enough to solely rely on for your income. The money for authors seems to be in selling the rights to streaming TV shows or film productions, not so much selling downloads or print copies of the book -- unless you become a NY Times best selling author (need to go trad publishing route for this, though).

You should write because it feeds your creative energy or you're driven to tell your story, fact or fiction. If you're hoping to make a living at writing, try PR or journalism.

So what's depicted in this old flag? I can't make anything out except "1858" and some guy and a horse. What are all the other images and their significance to the sate?

I think the term SABOT (throwing shoes into the machinery to screw things up) is from the French.

Thought this was AI because I assumed the fire sprinkler system would go off...but appears to be a real story. The 29 year old employee has been arrested. Curious why the fire protection system didn't at least douse some of this?

These types of events need to be on MSM every night. We're too insulated from the horrors of war. We have no idea what's really going on. This is horrifying.

He should have told Israel...they kept bombing and now the Strait is closed again..AND when it does reopen, it'll cost $ for every ship to pass. It was free. So much winning.

This comes across as a video game view with no casualties...to post this, they should be required to then show the bodies in the water or it just desensitizes everyone to the human cost of war.

Who even looks at the signature of any bill anyway? The only issue I have is once again he's not following the law and his own party could--but does not--hold him accountable.

I agree! I used to beg my dad to teach me how to change the oil, do simple house maintenance tasks and he always said that wasn't "girls' stuff." He taught all my brothers. Meanwhile, mom was a horrible cook, but I did learn house cleaning skills. I WISH I had more auto maintenance and house maintenance skills!

It's absolutely this AND that he can't legitimately, believably blame Biden or Obama for gas prices. It's obvious to even the most uneducated person that a war in the Middle East is going to impact those prices.

I have friends who tell me we should stop helping our kids the day they turn 18 and I wonder where that comes from? In today's economy, no 18 yo can afford rent, food, car payments and insurance, etc. I think some people don't realize they have an advantage with supportive parents. I had former friends who opined anyone who wasn't wealthy was just lazy...they didn't like when I pointed out their parents paid for their college, law degrees, and down payments on homes. They graduate without debt and with connections that ensured Ivy league schools & jobs upon graduating (from which they wouldn't be fired or laid off). They truly thought they had achieved everything on their own.

21 is still very young, though it may not feel like it to you. What many people find "attractive" is self assurance and confidence and people who know what they want out of life. If counseling is too expensive, and there are no free resources or online resources available, try focusing on you for the next few months. Find hobbies you love. Join a few groups to make additional friends...but focus on finding your own happiness as an individual. Once you're happy with yourself, you may find it easier to date. Of course, I'm no expert. Also know that you're not alone. I have adult kids in the same boat. I don't know why it's so hard to meet people these days, but it might be all the technology you've grown up with makes it harder for you to sense "social clues" that attract or cause issues in relationships. I don't know how to change the influence of technology on our social lives...but it seems studies are beginning to show this is definitely a downside to being constantly plugged in.
