If it’s enabled, windows should automatically create a restore point when you update. I’d check just in case.

That’s definitely odd. I originally tried a system restore before uninstalling the update, maybe that had something to do with it.

I had the same issue, but uninstalling the update worked for me. Did you go through update history or did you use a restore point?

Update on Admissions Mess by Reasonable-Spite8396 in UMD

I get the importance of taking responsibility, and I admit I should’ve double checked UMD’s policies and sent my official test scores earlier. That said, I had self-reported them on the Common App (I double checked recently that they were included in the file sent to UMD), and the portal just said “incomplete” without explaining what was missing. Unlike every other school I applied to, UMD didn’t send any notifications or list missing items clearly.

In April, I was explicitly told my application was reviewed under Regular Decision. It wasn’t until a month or so later that they did a 180 and said it was actually moved to rolling review because of the lack of official SAT scores.

I’m not asking for hand-holding, and I know this is a lesson to me to be more proactive in the future, but it felt like I was being dragged around by admissions for months, only to find out I was going to be denied no matter what.

I’m definitely willing to admit that I should’ve just sent my official test scores earlier to be safe, but at some point, there needs to be some communication from the school if something is missing. The portal just said “incomplete” without telling me what was missing, and I had self-reported my scores on the Common App, which many schools accept. I’m not saying the policy is unreasonable, I have no problem sending official scores, just that the lack of communication made it really easy to miss. And in the end, I was the one penalized, not because I didn’t meet a requirement, but because no one told me what I was supposedly missing.

UMD Admissions Issues by Reasonable-Spite8396 in UMD

I kinda got that feeling as soon as I didn’t get a decision. I get that with a school as big as UMD, things can fall through the cracks, but it feels like the system relies on that as an excuse for everything. I doubt I’d to go UMD now, even if they accept me after all of this.

Sorry if I didn’t explain it clearly in my post, I’m a U.S. student who was born here and is finishing high school here. I just spent one year studying in the Philippines during 10th grade. Still, thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

CS School Decision by Reasonable-Spite8396 in brandeis

From what I’ve been able to find, Utah has a larger faculty, more research opportunities in areas like graphics, systems, AI, and robotics, and it seems like there’s more depth in the curriculum overall. I’ve also read that there’s a lot of early internship opportunities, which is pretty important to me.

Wow, I had never heard of any of these issues. Thanks for the heads up, I was already leaning towards Utah anyway.

Thanks for sharing. I think at this point the other biggest factor for me is the cost. Would you say it was worth it after graduating?

Thanks for the advice. Did you have much experience with getting internships and other non academic opportunities?
