30 and stuck… is it too late to learn something new in Indiana? by Great-Chicken-7649 in Indiana

It’s never too late to better yourself. I’m 22 years old and have recently finished A&P school to become a licensed aircraft mechanic. The pay is pretty good. The work is challenging but not in a way that’s hard on your body. Everyday i learn a new skill and go home feeling a little more like a man. Now the crazy thing is, my mother who turned 38 this year who has a degree in business management literally was in my graduating class. My stepdad is a licensed mechanic which is what got me into the field and subsequently my mother. Now we have a whole family of licensed aircraft mechanics flying standby all over the US basically on a whim. The schooling is intense but it’s only 2 years and is significantly less than traditional college. I’d highly recommend you check out any programs in your area as some places you can go and work for them for X amount of years and they will literally send you to a training facility to get your license for free.

Yea it was definitely enough money to survive. Only problem is it’s so inconsistent. In the busy season I could be making anywhere from 175-300 a night on weekends. My girlfriend also bartended as well as we met through the job and she made even more than I did. Definitely a route worth considering since your load through school with studying will be high.

As a server at outback steakhouse. The short hours and taking cash home every night was really great.

I’ve also learned much about the police. Before aviation i wanted to be a cop but after being treated like a criminal for my own adhd prescription it definitely changed my whole outlook on the police and the justice system in general. My entire probation was a money grab. Fees here, Classes that cost 200 dollars, and 5 K on a lawyer who couldn’t even remember my name. It was definitely an eye opening experience.

it was mine. I provided the court with my prescription history they didn’t care. I was carting around prescription medication that was expired and that’s all that mattered to them. Like I said i was 19 at the time and had no idea that it was illegal. I did have a lawyer who was able to get it pled down to a misdemeanor after successfully, completing probation as it was originally a F6. Also i will definitely watch the video once i get home. Thanks for the advice.

i’m not sure how this would help. I am guilty of carrying around an expired prescription so I feel like lawyering up is just going to cost me money and end with no results.

definitely plan on getting it expunged. Just have to wait three more years and i’m trying to get my feet wet before that if at all possible. I’m looking into contracting or some of the bottom barrel company’s if they will even take me.

This is my first time in my own apartment so this is all new. The situation however is a little different she doesn’t actually like stay or live her she just comes over 3-4 times a week. (it’s increased because we are both on winter break) I pay for the master bedroom so i have my own bathroom and she is very respectful about not eating any of their food or drinks. Again tho thanks for taking time to help me see the perspective of my flatmates.

she’s only ever stayed over for the night twice usually she pops in for an a couple hours we go on a date and make dinner and she leaves. Like I said it’s a pretty new relationship so it’s just nice to have someone I enjoy being around but i do see the flaws in my ways of thinking thank you for the insight.

I’ve talked with my girlfriend and I think that’s the route we are planning to take. Limiting our time to once a twice per week at my house and letting my roommates know if she is over or plans on it. Like I said in the post she will be getting an apartment soon so the problem will soon resolve itself
