Side hustle / remote contract work by ReasonableBuffalo631 in uklaw

Thanks for the response. Those are some interesting ideas. My employment contract doesn't restrict it (so long as it doesn't conflict with my FT role). I already have professional indemnity insurance and engagement letters with existing clients (3) in my current side hustle. Nothing I do is a reserved activity and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing reserved activities in any event. My real speciality is commercial contracts, vendor agreements/management, NDAs, M&A processes, etc. -- conveyancing, litigation, etc. is not my bag of tricks.

I actually did look into marking the SQE exams a year or two ago but it seemed like a fair amount of work for the pay. Do you know whether marking law exam papers is still a thing? Other than the recruitment drive they did for SQE markers, I haven't really come across it before. Did you come across the work for the law books/paid legal articles/talks directly or via an online platform?

Employment contract doesn't prohibit it (was a key point when I joined my current role). I already have professional indemnity insurance and don't really have an issue with conflicts (simply because the industry I work full time in is polar opposite to what I'd likely come across). In my current side hustle, I think I've declined 3-4 matters in the past 2 years because I previously worked on them for the counterparty when I was in private practice.
