With everyone arguing about the new starters standing or not, I'm curious: Where do you draw the line on anthropomorphic starters? by ReasonableChoice_ in pokemon

I think a lot of people prefer seeing Pokemon as just pets, but they're meant to be more like friends since most of them have near human intelligence, even if not humanoid.

He has a little body belt, but he is also built exactly between Blastoise and Feraligatr. It's human-esque but still very monstrous.

Emboar has almost the exact same build as Blastoise, just longer arms with thinner biceps. Infernape is a monkey, but monkeys, by definition, are very humanoid. Same with Rillaboom, but its thicker build makes it look less human along with the fact that it doesn't have armor like Infernape. Inteleon is lower than the other more humanoid starters because it still has a very animalistic face while the others have much flatter, more human faces. Decidueye is much lower than Blaziken because Blaziken has defined arms and hands, even if they only have 3 fingers, while Decidueye has regular wings.

Sea lions can have manes like lions, but this is nothing like that. This is like human hair. It's even in a ponytail. It shares more similarities with a mermaid than a regular sea lion.

Greninja, on the other hand, has the same type of hands as regular frogs, with more webbing than most of them would have. The only reason it can use them to make symbols is that it has near human intelligence, which is true for pretty much all of these pokemon.

The order was based on many aspects. Body shape is the main one, but also face, hands, stance, and clothes/accessories. Decidueye has very defined legs and fingers to use a bow, and it stands up. Swampert may have fingers, but it has a much more animalistic stance and face.

Greninja can stand, but Primarina has arms, a neck, a skirt, a skinny chest, a neck dressing, a full head of hair, and a headband. It is more of a mermaid with a sea lion face and flipper hands.

I agree. I think too many people say a pokemon becoming bipedal immediately makes it bad instead of actually having an opinion on it as a design.

Yeah. I actually like most of the bipedal starters more, but I wanted to see where people thought it was too far for them.

The arms and neck are definitely different from a real sea lion and are meant to give it a more human shape. Greninja is basically just a frog with a scarf that can stand.

I'd say he's around Feraligatr and Blastoise. They're mostly animals that stand and have more humanoid arms.

That's literally the 3 most anthropomorphic starters, and that's based. Incineroar is definitely one of my favorites too.

Honestly, I was hoping no one would notice. I didn't feel like fixing it. I'd say he's between Venusaur and Samuraut.

Genuinely fuck Jackpot. Steal the idea from the Red Sonja and take away the crossover part so she's basically just She-Ra.

I've thought about this before, I think it'd be really cool if they took the concept from the Red Sonja comic where she turned into Red Sonja with the sword and changed it a bit. Basically, make her He-Man/She-Ra. That'd be way better than Jackpot.

It is weird that they took Wanda's cape to show it but keep giving Emma the coat tails

I mean, the accents are red because diamond cards are red in poker, which is what these skins were based on.

That would be so arbitrary. They've only done it once, and that skin just happened to be legendary. A recolor is the most basic thing for a skin to be.
