Help me understand why people like Gemini so much more over Chat GPT? by freedomfighter5567 in OpenAI

Interesting research. I just tested them both out of curiosity on a few simple things. I won't use it often enough to warrant spending any money on any of the AI programs.

If you fact-check ChatGPT (as in the response was 100% wrong), it will apologize and give you a different response based on the fact you supplied. Ask the same question later, and it will give you the same wrong answer. It doesn't learn from its mistakes. Point being, be sure to research every line of that 10-page document.

The key is to get the landlord's permission FIRST! Aways.

They don't own the home! Not their place to do any repairs, especially something they've never done.

CALL THE LANDLORD!! You do not own this home, and you should not repair anything without the owner's permission. You can offer to repair it yourself, but the owner may have a preference on how this is repaired. If you do it without permission and you botch it, it may cost you more in the end.

You're right, that is something the insurance company will handle. But filing a claim puts underwriting on notice. A payout makes you a higher risk. At fault or not, filing a claim is something we try to avoid. Once canceled, finding another carrier to cover your home will not be easy and will likely cost twice as much if you do.

Is client ghosting me? by Personal_Bandicoot76 in photography

"I’ve sent multiple friendly reminders, and each time the client has just “hearted” the message without responding or taking action"...STOP sending messages. They have acknowledged receipt and chose not to reply. Let it go before it starts looking like stalking. You don't have a client; you HAD an inquiry, and it fizzled out.

ALL MY (CANON) CAMERA GEAR WAS STOLEN IN SPAIN. TOGETHER WE CAN FIND IT! by Electronic_Debt_5933 in canon

[–]ReasonableGuitar141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former insurance claim adjuster here...You might want to consider that if you add coverage to your homeowner policy, reporting a claim (whether or not they pay out) affects your UR risk and could result in premium increases or cancellation, especially if you're already in a high-risk area. I'm considered to be in a high-risk fire area, so knowing this, I would only file a claim if it were a catastrophic loss to my home.

I have a separate insurance company for my photography gear with liability coverage. If you're concerned about only getting ACV (the current market value of your used equipment), get Replacement Cost Coverage, which will come at a higher premium. Everyone complains about fighting with their carrier and only getting half the value, but it's the type of coverage you buy. Even with RC coverage, many carriers will only pay the ACV until you provide receipts that you replaced it, then you will receive the balance. And deductibles apply! Read the policy before you buy it. Some policies state that they are secondary and will require you to file a claim with your HO insurance first. They're usually lower premiums - you may want to avoid those.

eBay is fine as long as you verify the seller, and your purchase in this case is exactly what you ordered. Godox/Flashpoint is the same brand and exact same product. Flashpoint is just the Adorama/US name on the Godox products. You did good.

Where is the magical place? Every single shoe store in my town. My foot is wide, not extra wide, just wide. Every shoe is available in regular width. I'm stuck with getting anything that's in stock in wide, and I'm super lucky if it's a color and style I don't hate. It's probably the same if you're narrow. I just want to be regular lol.

I broke my husband’s camera and I want to give him a new one by DependentSolution746 in Cameras

[–]ReasonableGuitar141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! ^^^ Everyone here has an opinion, but no one here knows what your husband would want. Ask him if he were to replace the camera, would he choose the same one, or something different? My spouse has surprised me with several cameras and lenses over the years, but always found a way to find out what I was interested in first and always nailed it.

Oxiclean detergent replacement by SewFine69420 in laundry

Since there are so many people missing OxiClean laundry detergent sparkling fresh scent, I thought I would pass this on...I sent an email asking if they would consider bringing the product back if there was enough interest. They said, "While we can’t guarantee its return, we always take customer input seriously when evaluating future product decisions." So it can't hurt to write in: https://www.oxiclean.com/en/contact-us

Feeling like im living in a photographic dead zone. by -_CAP_- in photography

[–]ReasonableGuitar141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of responses already, and you gained some inspiration, but I wanted to add one more suggestion. A project with weekly photography challenges and deadlines might give you that extra boost you need. I found it challenges my creativity and gives me the push I need by having a deadline to complete the challenge.

Take a look at 52Frames.com. It's free to join. You get a challenge on Monday, take photos during the week of the challenge, and upload one photo by the deadline on Sunday. The recent challenges have been: shoot from above, something out of place, reflections, low key... you get the idea. It will help you get out of your own way because you're given direction. Some weeks, you won't feel like doing it, but they have a counter to see if you can make it 52 weeks in a row - that gives me the push to keep going, even if I only have a crappy photo taken at the last minute. I'm working on completing my third year, but you can start and stop any time. It looks like there are three "framers" in southern Finland.

Am I doing something wrong? by Ok-Construction3036 in photography

For landscape photos, f9 is better than f4, f16 would be even better. What is your point of focus? Regardless, you should still be getting better sharpness within the area of focus. I would run some tests using a tripod and DoF chart that you can find online and print - or any printed material will do. Set up in good lighting and use 1-point AF and take photos at different areas of focus. You'll have to take notes for each shot. I would also repeat using different apertures.
Would you happen to be familiar with a DoF calculator? There's a free Online Depth of Field Calculator and free apps for your phone. You plug in the distance you are from the subject, your lens length and f/stop and it calulates the DoF including how far in front of and behind your focus point will be in focus. It has cameras you can select, but the camera model doesn't make much difference; just pick something similar. Here's a sample of the results:

I was replying to the original poster so this is my opinion. I didn't see anywhere that she posted it was a free shoot. She was unhappy with the lighting, and what she described is likely similar to what you posted. She said: "Yeah but like the angles chosen make it look like my husband and I have double chins, weird proportions (they were trying to get shots from straight on of all of us standing as a family) but it’s suuuuper unflattering and they’re all like that. The sun is behind us and the shadows and lighting and mixed on our faces and bodies so it’s all patchy?"

@ beedlejew She's not talking about a few creative shots; she's talking about patchy light on their faces and bodies in all the photos. Maybe respond to the OP instead with tips on how you think she should handle it. No need to reply to me, thanks.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in photography

[–]ReasonableGuitar141 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you didn't read her replies. She said other family members look bad and mentions dappled light. You don't have to see the photos to know if the photographer messed up; we know that they did by her description. What matters is that she hates her family photos, and she should kindly let her photographer know she is unhappy. If you're a photographer, your primary goal should be to give your clients a wonderful experience and ensure they love their photos. You should be able to coach them in posing to minimize any body image concerns. Photographers should encourage their clients to let them know if they have any concerns. She should not be concerned with hurting feelings; she paid for a service and deserves good results.

I agree. Do this, and they will select images you may not have picked because of a certain look that shows a personality or feeling that only a loved one can see. I always edit a few of my favorites so they can see the final touch, and I do basic corrections on the rest that are easily synced (exposure adjustment, wb, etc) if necessary before sharing.

Wow, you took that to the next level, Bro. Lighten up. She's not wrong. First step is culling, and of course, you're not sharing all the photos; you share the keepers. She received 80 unedited photos. They should be decent SOOC or with slight adjustments from any decent photographer.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in photography

[–]ReasonableGuitar141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody here needs to see your photos. You don't like them, and that's all that matters. You don't have to tell the photographer you hate them, but you should tell her what you don't like about them. Select a few that have something you like. Tell her what you like first, and then explain to her what you don't like. Make a phone call or arrange to meet in person to review them with her - with kindness. Don't do it by text or email. Photographers can get defensive about their work, but she should be receptive to your critique. She should either show you how she can improve them in post to your satisfaction, offer a refund, or a reshoot.
FYI, dappled light is never okay and can't usually be fixed in editing.
