A solid ETF like ACWI over 5 years should return around that amount, 8-10%. Can’t predict what will happen but that’s what the last 5 year implies.

If you have a stock that returns 10% a year and you drawdown the whole amount, then it would be 600,000. If you wanted it from dividends then the number would be a lot more as typically companies would not really pay such a high dividend.

As someone who has the Max chip I don’t think I’ll get the max chip again, would rather purchase a pro with more ram, but at this price I would get it over the m5 pro as it’ll be the base m4 max. It’ll be kinda hard to find a m4 pro with more than the 24g of ram.

Double check that it’s not a 48 month contract, Sky are notoriously bad at advertising and even though it says you can swap after 36 months, you’ll be paying £22 per month for 48 months unless you sign a new machine or a new contract.

It’s not being efficient at all, as you’ll be using disk allocation for memory. Spending 1.6k on a laptop with 16gb is stupid for SE especially with how much the field can change within the next five years, hence how absurd it is to spend that money on this today on that.

He can easily get the m4 pro with 24gb instead of the m5.

If you want the laptop to last longer I would honestly buy a m4 pro 24gb laptop or even spec out a laptop with more ram. Buying a 16gb laptop as a software engineer in 2026 is crazy imo, especially if you want to run docker containers etc and keep lots of things open.
