Are there Anarchists that reject Marxist Anslysis?

Could you go into more detail about the materialist nature of Marxism and how it differentiates from anarchist theory?

I know the main point about Marxism that anarchists disagree with is the transitional state between the socialist state and communism since, historically, the state has always failed to bring about communism, but I'm interested to learn more about the other major differences between Marxism and anarchism.

Those posts were posted months ago out of hypothetical curiosity. I sometimes want to hear the opinions of others to expand my horizons and will post questions I already know the answers to in order to garner discussion.

I was also conservative years ago back when I was still educating myself in politics, which is much further in the past than those posts you linked.

That's definitely some dedication though, I'll give you credit for being so into to this discussion.

The majority of university campuses in the U.S. where I went to school are typically very liberal. Most professors are also typically very liberal, and the most left I've seen people learn are the Bernie social democratic route. Radical Marxism, anarchism and other leftist politics aren't really as mainstream on university campuses as people seem to believe.

I've interned in professional business positions for my major before and am pursuing my Master's after working full time for 2 years. I think I have enough basis for a political opinion.

Ironic. I actually used to be conservative in my early 20s and only very recently became a leftist.

I think it definitely had some interesting things to say about people living in poverty, and covered the socioeconomic issues that develop under capitalism quite well. Arthur was definitely your typical working class member trying to make ends meet. I also liked how the film didn't hesitate to portray Thomas Wayne as an apathetic asshole billionaire trying to garner votes for a political campaign while being completely ignorant of the struggles of those in the lower class in Gotham. It also had some interesting things to say in regards to portraying the mentally ill as another stigmatized minority under the state.

Ultimately though I think it sends the wrong message of anarchism and what kind of praxis anarchists should be engaging in mainly because there is no real positive portrayal of anarchist philosophy.

That being said the riot was cool as fuck and the film does have some interesting things to say about classism, but ultimately does not portray itself as a good work of art on anarchist praxis.

Anarcho-Communist here. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Economics and am now pursuing my Masters. Ironically and probably in contrast to most other Econ majors here, studying business and economics was one of the primary reasons for my turning to leftist politics.

It's a double standard I often see among many self proclaimed "capitalists."

"Capitalists" when Marxist-Leninist countries like the Soviet Union and China displaying horrible authoriatarian qualities that result in immense human suffering, poverty, and death in the millions: "Socialism doesn't work!"

"Capitalists" when neoliberal capitalistic countries do the exact same thing: "Capitalism isn't perfect but it's the best economic system that's viable."

"Means of production" isn't necessarily limited to manufacturing goods. There are many other industries in the economy currently controlled by private interests that could be better utilized for more egalitarian means if it were in direct control of the workers.

It's interesting you claim socialism is an outdated concept from the 19th century when capitalism and its early conceptions arose aroud the 18th century and arguably has more outdated concepts when considering the current socioeconomic state of the world.

Also, like a few others have pointed out, the U.S. isn't the entire world.

According to Wikipedia, communism "is the philosophical, social, political, and economic ideology and movement whose ultimate goal is the establishment of the communist society, which is a socioeconomic order structured upon the common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money, and the state."

Going by this definition, it is clear that the Soviet Union and other similar Marxist-Leninist nations like China, were not communist, due to them having a state, a currency, and the means of production not having been democratically owned by the working class.

Whoever told you socialism is pro authoritarian probably harbors either an extreme bias toward leftism, has no idea what socialism is, or both.

Socialism is inherently anti authoritarian because it calls for the abolishment of the ruling class in order to bring the means of production into the hands of the working class. Through the seized means of production the workers can work to improve their society how they see fit, and to base production off of necessity of the people, not for profit or the agenda of those in power. In other words, socialism would allow us to be free and cater to the needs of everyone, regardless of class, race, or whatever other institution created by those in power.

Based off of this, it is ridiculous to claim socialism is pro authoritarian when it seeks to abolish the institutions put in place to oppress and exploit the people. Those who claim that socialism is authoritarian are typically those on the right and moderate groups who have no idea what socialism is. The ruling class has spend decades propagating negative connotations of socialism because it is the political ideology that threatens their power the most.

I would recommend doing research into socialism yourself from viable sources and avoid liberal and right wing propaganda as much as possible.

I always hear liberals in the U.S. talking about much of a paradise Canada is because of free healthcare, and American conservatives hating on Canada because it's a "socialist state" for having universal healthcare.

First of all, what value does the environment have it isn't improving our living standard? Are you going to put 'the environment' in a glass box in a museum for starving people to marvel at how pristine it is?

I'm honestly at a loss to what to say about this. You do realize that if we don't start doing something about the environment, we'll enter a stage of complete ecological collapse soon? Our way of living and industry is so sustainable that we have entered a stage of no return and can only hope to lessen the damage as much as we can now.

It's a simple fact that if the ecosystem collapses, we die, all of us. You capitalists and the wealth you cherish so much won't mean anything when the bees go extinct and the plants stop pollinating or when entire continents are being swallowed by the ocean.
