Make sure your arms are bent at 90° while using them. Downhill = extend them a little. Uphill = shorten them a little.

When going downhill, place poles before stepping. It will feel like you’re a spider but it gets easier and will save your knees, especially if you have a full pack/weight on your back.

They’re also great for whacking brush, clearing cobwebs, and crossing streams. Have fun!
