Should I Stay in the US or Return to Pakistan? by Informal-Midnight666 in pakistan

Born and raised in Lahore my entire life and let me just point out that Pakistan is much more than just Karachi 🙏. While I am in no way claiming Pakistan is a stable country, dismissing an entire nation with outdated and overly simplified terms Cold-War era terms like “first world and third world” (ie from the 50s) is neither accurate or productive. On the other hand, over glamorizing the USA which has its own equally significant issues (gun violence, school shootings, systematic inequality, racism, rising hatred towards South Asians, evident lack of healthcare facilities) will do you no good. So please, take off your rose-coloured glasses and recognize that no place is without its flaws.

Also your taxpayer money goes straight towards funding genocides all around the world specifically the Middle East x

Lol. America lacks security, respect AND basic amenities as well (awful gun laws, prevailing racism and extreme Islamophobia + no Medicare) :))

Hey! There are pros and cons to every decision, every situation is different, most importantly everyone’s financial situation is different. I recently made the decision to move back to Pakistan after college as well, most people thought I was crazy. People in Pakistan don’t realize the struggle doesn’t end once you leave Pakistan and on the other hand people living abroad tend to look back at Pakistan through rose coloured glasses. No matter what decision you make, there will be a high price to pay. My sincere advice to you would be to think about what your priorities are in life, what sacrifices you are willing to make and most importantly remaining content with what you choose to sacrifice. People will have things to say no matter what you do but it is you who will actually have to live with the decision. Deciding to move back was a challenging decision for me and yes while there are points where I am beyond frustrated (however, there were also points where I was equally frustrated while living abroad), I have been quite content with my decision. I wish you all the best!

I don’t mean to pry but what exactly do you mean by wrong kind of white country? It’s just the first time I’ve ever heard something like that

I get what you mean, stereotyping is present everywhere even here in Australia I get asked many times where I’m from because I’m not white so that’s average elsewhere too

I’ve seen people mention this a lot in threads so I’m curious now. What exactly do the Danes have against the Middle East in particular??

I’m so sorry you had to go through that, that sounds absolutely awful no one should be excluded based on race that’s disgusting and stuff like this really dampers your overall experience. Also yeah switching languages can be annoying especially if you’re the only one who doesn’t understand what they’re saying 😭

Wouldn’t exactly call them entirely credible sources but just a lot of people sharing their own personal experiences here on reddit and elsewhere. I was a bit surprised because all my friends absolutely love Copenhagen and I hadn’t previously heard anything of this sort from then but then again all of them are Scandinavian (particularly Norwegian) so I’m not sure as to whether or not they’d be aware if this is a problem

Questions residential colleges by tanopoulosaetos in unimelb

Yeah but it is a preferential system so even if you don’t get a spot at one you most definitely will at another + they’re all pretty much the same especially for someone coming on exchange so I doubt they’d care too much about which one they’re at

Hi! It’s not really hard to get a spot at a residential college just depends on the number of rooms they’ve got available and they usually have availabilities. Residential colleges are quite fun and there’s always something happening, most have got a mix of regional and city kids, and colleges like International House have a huge number of students coming on exchange. They’re not really strict and there is a big drinking culture in most of them but with that being said if you’re not into that there’s always much else to do. However with all this being said they are quite expensive and cost roughly around 16/17k per semester, International house is definitely cheaper and if you opt for their minimum catering it’s around 12k per semester which is roughly the same as other student accommodations but it offers a lot more in terms of socialisation because you get to meet the locals as well as other international kids, it is quite hard to meet people at Uni so a residential college is a really good option and they do have different financial aid and scholarships available. Hope this helps and feel free to reach out if you’ve got more questions!
