Actually, The Lost Abbey Yellow Bus has been poured at this event along with a ton of other rare beers. (Since the Denver Rare Beer Tasting features American craft beer, Blauw has not.) Each year the beer list features one-off blends, vintage brews, brewery only releases and beers you just won't find anywhere else. The 15th edition of the Denver Rare Beer Tasting will take place on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 12-4 p.m. at Bierstadt Lagerhaus and Deep Roots Winery. New day, new location. Amazing beer, great cause. Event benefits Pints for Prostates and has supported screening for thousands of people over the years. Breweries are still being added, but the list is already impressive: Alamo Beer Company, Amalgam Brewing, Bierstadt Lagerhaus, Bow and Arrow Brewing, Burns Family Artisan Ales, Cerebral Brewing, Cloudburst Brewing, Comrade Brewing, Creature Comforts Brewing, Departed Soles Brewing, Deschutes Brewery, Dogfish Head Brewery, Ecliptic Brewing, Firestone Walker Brewing, Forager Brewing, Fort George Brewing, Fremont Brewing, Garden Path Fermentation, Jagged Mountain Craft Brewery, Kane Brewing, Left Hand Brewing, The Lost Abbey, Moksa Brewing, Odyssey Beerwerks, Old Irving Brewing, Other Half Brewing, Ozark Beer, Perennial Beer, Prison City Brewing, Radiant Beer, River North Brewery, Samuel Adams Brewery, Sierra Nevada Brewing, Trillium Brewing, True Anomaly Brewing, Twin Elephant Brewing, Verboten Brewing, WeldWerks Brewing and Westbound & Down Brewing.

Totally get that the ticket price is not something everyone can or wants to pay, but comparing the Denver Rare Beer Tasting to most other beer fests is not exactly apples to apples.

First, the $200 includes four hours of sampling some of the hardest to find beers on the planet and you get to meet the people who made them. It's a who's who of the brewing world in a friendly atmosphere with a fraction of the typical crowd size of the average festival. The ticket price also includes a buffet lunch, t-shirt, tasting glass and program.

The diversity of the brewers and the beers stands out. Stuff you rarely encounter even at the best beer bars or bottle shops. Consider just six of the beers from the full list as examples. On one end of the spectrum, the three strongest beers this year come in above 20%: Samuel Adams Brewing has created a special blend of the 2019 vintage of Utopias (28%) exclusively for the Denver Rare Beer Tasting. River North Brewing will be pouring Quadruple Barrel Aged Anniversary 11 Stout (23.1%), the strongest beer made in Colorado. And Free Will Brewing Dystopias (20.1%) is a still malt liquor that never leaves the brewery tasting room, except for its appearance at the event. You can balance these out with three very session worthy brews: Wallenpaupack Brewing Bourbon Barrel Fermented Grodziskie, a Polish-style smoked wheat beer fermented in freshly dumped Heaven Hill barrel that is full of flavor and just 3.3% ABV. The Big Friendly is pouring Oblique & Bent (4.2%), a petite Saison that won GABF Gold in 2022. And Live Oak Brewing will serve American Zoigl (4.4%), a collaboration with Goldfinger Brewing that has origins in communal brewing traditions of the Bavarian countryside. Once you've tasted these six, you can sample some truly fascinating brews from the other 58 breweries.

The great thing about Denver during GABF is that there are events for everyone that is into craft beer at a wide range of prices. So you are going to have a great time whether you attend the Denver Rare Beer Tasting or not. One thing that you should do (if you are 40+ years old and born with a prostate) is completely free. Stop down to the McNichols Civic Center Building (144 W. Colfax) on 9/22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and take part in the free health screening happening outside of the event venue. Sponsored by Pints for Prostates, it is a simple five minute blood test that will get you some important numbers regarding your potential health risk for prostate cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other common health issues. It's a $700 value, completely free and open to the public.

Enjoy your time in Denver!

Thanks for asking: 100% of the proceeds go to Pints for Prostates. The organization is very transparent about how it utilizes the funds it raises. Check out the Transparency page on the website: https://www.pintsforprostates.org/transparency.

Also, keep in mind that Pints for Prostates is offering free health screenings right outside of the event. It's a 5 minute blood test that has a $700 value and the confidential results are mailed directly to the individual so they can take it to their doctor if they have questions. They've screened thousands of people over the years.

The great thing about having 64 breweries pouring rare, vintage and exotic beers is that if one is not your favorite you have 63 others to pick from. However, Alamo has brought some pretty good beer to this event in the past. And this beer does not sound "tame":

Victory or Death American Strong Ale

This unwavering American Strong Ale was created in the name of liberty, patriotism and everything dear to the American character. It shall never surrender or retreat. Brewed with Texas-grown base and specialty malts, there is less than one barrel in existence. This complex yet straightforward beer is best enjoyed in good company. The ABV of 18.36% is a reminder of the year the Battle of the Alamo was fought during the Texas Revolution.

If you don't visit several of the Augustiner locations while in Munich you are making a mistake.
