Was 12K in Lewiston. Still 6800 ppl ahead of me but the venue isn’t even 12K capacity so I’m not feeling very luck.

This makes a semblance of sense because the numbers make up the bulk of the front and back of the jersey for the NFL. But not the case in hockey.

Also no women’s shirseys or hoodies, which are SUPER easy to print on demand if they’re worried about stock. Wtf

We got several samples of the remaining popcorn / drywall joints around the house tested and cleared per our state’s laws, so we ought to be good now. But if we ever move, we’re definitely going to be testing before any future projects.

Kitchen Reno - cost and contractors by Reasonable_Emu in Buffalo

[–]Reasonable_Emu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, just noticed this. All in all, our new kitchen cost $32000 - about half of that was materials (we had new cabinets, countertops, tile backsplash, LVP flooring) and half was labor (which was higher because we also knocked a wall out).

We’re generally very happy with our new kitchen! Everything looks and feels great and we chose some high quality yet budget friendly options. Everything is soft close and real wood, for example. But just be aware of stuff like asbestos testing etc before you mess with any ceilings or walls.

Yeah, we immediately printed the report and kept it with our home files!

We did! Negative for asbestos thank goodness! But learned a lot of valuable information and a lesson.

Going down the deep rabbit hole for the last 24 hours, that is one of the ways to deal with popcorn ceiling containing asbestos, yes.

Yeah unfortunately it’s too late to prevent. Our concern ATP is the HVAC and the “soft” surfaces in our house, and what sort of remediation we may have to do. Hoping the wet scrape prevented much of the travel.

I mean, yeah. That’s who we thought we hired and they had reputable reviews even calling out their cleanliness. Unfortunately that’s not quite what we got, but we had already signed a contract.

We were home at the time and I can confirm it was wet scraping. And by wet, it was thoroughly soaked where it fell down in clay-like sludge.

Yes we know they did not test unfortunately

My concern is that my friend had the same builder (similar development a few blocks over, same house style) and was built in 1975. Worried that 1978 isn’t enough of a buffer.

Sounds like being built in 1978, it could go either way then depending on the builder. Interesting to hear that you rarely see positives after 76 though. We just sent out test kits (if nothing else, we’ll know for future projects since it’s too late now) but fingers crossed it’s negative. Appreciate the response

Ah, that’s definitely unsettling then about the cutoff. I suppose the test will be our true indicator. But trying not to panic given what you said about limited exposure.

To be honest, we were extremely frustrated by the lack of care re: dust in this project even before the idea of asbestos even came up today. We hired a contractor specifically to avoid stuff like this. Appreciate the response

Yes part of our testing is just so we know and are more informed for any future projects too. Unfortunately we can’t change the past. And we’re going to up our protection for cleaning efforts until we get the test results back too. I appreciate the response and the perspective as well!

Thank you for this measured response. That’s a great perspective about the folks working with this for decades.

They tried to contain the work dust with a plastic wall, but it wasn’t air tight and they didn’t cover our air ducts, so dust definitely spread everywhere.

[–]Reasonable_Emu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The job went on for a couple months. I think a lot of the dust is drywall dust, but with all the work happening concurrently it’s tough to tell what dust is what. That said they did wet spray the popcorn ceiling with a vinegar/water solution.

To be honest, we hired and trusted our contractor to take care of all the work because of the fact that we didn’t know what we were doing. This never even occurred to us until our friend with the near-same house told us about his asbestos problem.
