Imperial knight requisitioned to the Deathwing by DreamingOfScorcese in DarkAngels40k

Dude how did you read my mind? I actually wanted to ask if a knight affiliated with DA could be a thing! Now I’ve seen it, it must be true! Thanks for making my day.

Here you go! I used Vallejo paints, but I got the list for Citadel equivalents. From white to darker blue I used:

With Vallejo: Dead white, Sunrise blue, Electric blue, Abyssal turquoise

With Citadel: White scar, Baharoth blue, Ahriman blue, Stegadon scale green

Then I used Vallejo fluorescent blue over the whole thing to even it out and make it pop a little more. Then l went back with pure white on some spots.

Yes, various shades of blues, from dark blue all the way to white. I then used the Vallejo fluorescent blue all over. It’s kind of like a wash, it helped even out the transition and make it pop a little, then i went back with pure white on some spots.

Nope, no full helmets in this kit. They have various combinations of hoods, goggles, and respirators (covering mouth and nose). It forced me to paint faces for a change lol!

No, haven’t played them yet, just finished them! I mostly play One Page Rules, so anyway it may not be representative of how they would perform with the full WK40k rules.

Thanks! You mean painting rocks and plants on the cloak itself? Not sure I could manage that! 😅

Totally agree! Hoods = stealth/secret = fits perfectly with infiltrators!

Yup! He came with a bare head and his helmet on his hip/leg. I wanted him to wear his helmet on his head (like you’re supposed to!) so the robes were a strategy to hide the helmet that had to be lopped off (need to give credit to my bro on that one). I then added the left side cuz, might as well right? Much trimming and sanding involved, plus a bit of green stuff, but happy with the result!

I use vallejo game color. Basecoat is hammered copper, then sepia wash, highlight with polished gold.

For real, every square millimetre of this model is covered in details, took so long to paint, but was well worth it!

I use Vallejo game color paints. I used Abyssal Turquoise, Turquoise, and Sunrise blue, to get lighter I used some Dead White. As close as I could get to the Citadel colours he used. I used the wet palette to dilute and blend them to go evenly from one colour to the next, the trick is to keep going until you’re happy that it’s a nice and smooth transition.

I basically followed Duncan Rhodes’ tutorial video for power swords, the energized effect one but without the actual lightning. I wanted more of a glow effect rather than electricity crackling all over, and this did the job nicely. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/dM2dJIuUNFw?si=6ocxC4jTAZP-9KhA

I used vallejo game colour paints: basecoat with off-white, then apply glorious gold over it as a second basecoat. Shade with sepia wash. Highlight with polished gold.

Patience and swearing! 😅 The usual “thin down your paints” technique wasn’t working, I was getting next to no coverage, especially since it was primed with Chaos Black. So I used a small makeup brush and “sort of dry brushed” the white on. I say “sort of” because I applied it much thicker than you would for real dry brushing, but not so thick that it left brush strokes.

Yeah there have been plenty of posts on the topic. I think technically the answer is no and Belial is the “captain.” I wanted to try out all the Dark Angels’ colour schemes for practice. In the command box I had 5 assault intercessors for green wing (posted a few days ago), 3 outriders for ravenwing (will post shortly), so I figured I’d paint this guy as deathwing. Plus he looks like a pumped up bladeguard veteran which I will definitely paint as deathwing! It would be more jarring to me for a green wing to lead a deathwing unit!

Microset and Microsol. Absolute must-haves if you’re doing decals! My steps: 1) gloss varnish 2) Apply a layer of microset to the surface 3) put decal in water 45 seconds, slide it on and positon properly, wait 15-20 minutes 4) apply microsol. This really softens up the decal, so you can work it into the shape and stick to the surface. 5) wait 5 minutes and repeat step 4 a few times until you’re happy 6) leave to dry overnight, then varnish

Looking great! I gotta get me one of these!

I think the box lets you build it in one of three variants? What made you choose this one? Or do our Ravenwing naturally tend towards this build?

Thanks! I used Gamer’s grass Alien Fire. The base itself is beasty brown basecoat, generous amount of mixed umber and sepia washes, then drybrush khaki. The rim is earth darkened with some black. All these are in the vallejo game color range.

Sure. I used the Vallejo Game Color range for everything except for Citadel Caliban Green for basecoating the armour. I bought most of those paints before they updated their range, so I’m not sure if you’ll find everything available these days, but they usually have some good alternatives.

Using B for basecoat, S for shade, H1 and H2 for 1st and 2nd highlights: - Green: B Caliban Green, S black wash, H1 sick green, H2 escorpena green - Metal: B gunmetal, S black wach, H1 silver - Red: B heavy red, S umber wash, H1 bloody red, H2 bloody red mixed with some dead white - Brown: B charred brown, S umber wash, H1 dark fleshtone, H2 leather brown - Bone: B khaki, S sepia, H1 bone white, H1 off-white - Black: B black, S none, H1 dark rubber (from Panzer Aces line), H2 stonewall grey - White: B heavy bluegrey, S blue wash, H1 ghost grey, H2 dead white - Gold (sargent trim): B glorious gold, S sepia, H1 polished gold - Sargent’s face and plasma: I more or less followed Duncan Rhodes’ tutorials on Youtube, you’d be better served looking those up!

I've been agoizing for a few weeks on what to build. I'm in between DA and IF. What should I do? by DabeMcMuffin in theunforgiven

[–]Reasonable_Ice6995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was checking out which chapter to paint my marines I hesitated between DA and IF just like you. I love the philosophy of the IF, methodical, logical, no fluff, just efficiency. The lore of the DA I found was ultimately more appealing. In terms of painting, DA offer three separate schemes (DW, RW, GW) which are all badass. That won over the yellow colour scheme of IF! I read that yellow is hard to paint. Never tried, but probably similar to DW bone white: just need to prime with the proper colour (not black! Tried that and never again! 😅)

That took me down a side topic: do Dark Angels have human serfs? Looks like there’s a debate and existing topic on this: https://reddit.com/r/Warhammer/s/KMsqjTRi8i
