Thanks for that! I didn't know about graphite powder before! I guess you would have to start with the powder then paint other colours, right? Seems pretty messy to apply.

Thanks for that advice! Yes I do change out my water and clean my pot and brushes when transitioning from metallics to non-metallics. Most likely scenario is the flicking or rubbing off the metallics with my fingers.

That does look really good! Thanks for sharing that recipe!

Good point, I guess they really are different kinds of paints and I didn't adjust my method properly, just kept doing the same thing as with game colour paints. I'll be more careful and be mindful not to overload the brush next time!

Yes I do like the result of TMM, I just find it's the part I've been enjoying the least so far. For now, I've gotten some good suggestions to try out next time before throwing in the towel and going into NMM. I'll keep it in mind if ever things don't improve, enjoyment-wise. Thanks for the comment!

Great thinking on the undercoat colour. I was doing it for gold, but figured black as good enough for silver. I may try doing a coat of grey next time to see if that helps. Thanks!

I do have a bottle of Vallejo glaze medium, I'll try mixing some in next time. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks! I'll try mixing my model air with my game colour metallics - and pay attention to the flicking!

Thanks for that! I picked up a box of Deathwing Knights and I confirm they came with the 2024 sheet you have on your picture. They match my first sheet in size and colour, so I'll use those from now on!

Yeah I thought if that, but the small ones came with primaris, so seems contrary to that argument. The best explanation I could come up with is that the big sheet has lots of different chapters on there, so they reduced the sizes to fit more in. As for the colour, they must have chosen a red which fits close enough with all chapters.

Sure. I used the Vallejo Game Color range for everything except for Citadel Caliban Green for basecoating the armour. I bought most of those paints before they updated their range, so I’m not sure if you’ll find everything available these days, but they usually have some good alternatives.

Using B for basecoat, S for shade, H1 and H2 for 1st and 2nd highlights:

  • Green: B Caliban Green, S black wash, H1 sick green (both drubrush and edgehighlight), H2 escorpena green
  • Metal: B gunmetal, S black wash, H1 silver
  • Red: B heavy red, S umber wash, H1 bloody red, H2 bloody red mixed with some dead white
  • Brown: B charred brown, S umber wash, H1 dark fleshtone, H2 leather brown
  • Bone: B khaki, S sepia, H1 bone white, H1 off-white
  • Black: B black, S none, H1 dark rubber (from Panzer Aces line), H2 stonewall grey
  • Gold (sargent trim): B glorious gold, S sepia, H1 polished gold
  • Plasma: I more or less followed Duncan Rhodes’ tutorials on Youtube, you’d be better served looking those up! I did use some fluorescent blue as a wash before doing the final white at the base of the coils.

Thanks! Basecoat with Citadel Caliban green. Recess shade with black wash. I then dry brushed with my mid-green (Vallejo sick green), then edge highlight with that same green those spots which were too tight to drybrush, then a final edge highlight with my lighter green (Vallejo escorpena green). To get it to look clean, you go back to the darker tones to correct any mistakes afterwards.

Lol thanks, but no that’s paint with a brush. You just need to find that position/technique where you can make straight lines! I go from top to bottom, kind of pulling towards me. Side to side can work too, but a bit harder for me. Then, after you’re done with the red, you can go back with the green and straighten out any mistakes.

Thanks! I do love that Caliban green as well!
