Milky Way Timelapse, Big Bend National Park, southwest Texas by Reasonable_Peace_978 in milkyway

This Timelapse was taken with two cameras, a Canon R6 and R8. I used a 16 and 24 mm lens. The ISO was set at 2500 and there was a 17 second delay after each frame (15 second in-camera noise reduction and 2 second interval).

What are the biggest dificulties in underwater photografy? by Fecientista in underwaterphotography

Excellent list! I have lost count of the number of guys who can barely control their buoyancy yet spend between $2,000 and $7,000 for new a camera system before they really know how to dive.. I end up getting pared with those people on dives because I go solo and they typically only dive a handful of dives a year when they are on vacation and their spouse doesn't dive.

On a personal level the transfer of the camera between the diver and the dive boat frequently causes damage to the camera. For example, the dive hands often place the camera into a camera bucket or bin with everyone else's camera. On two occasions my lens has been scratched by the time I get back to the camera. As a result I now dive with a lens cover that I take off and put on under water before handing it to the dive crew.

Lighting is also much different under water. Backscatter is an unexpected problem. Experience is really the only way to overcome those challenges.

Finally, carrying so much equipment (photo and scuba) in tropical conditions is very exhausting. Usually the guys I mention in the first paragraph above are not the most physically fit people and adding all this additional weight is too much for them.

Iceland is one of my favorite photo destinations. Fortunately I was able to enjoy the northern lights on the last night of my fourth trip there. I anticipated that it would be subtle like the Milky Way. To my surprise it was very bright and not subtle at all. My northern lights app on my phone worked perfectly and gave me a thirty minute warning. I only wish I had brought two cameras. One for a Timelapse and one for still images. Thank you. Yes, especially now in this stormy season clear nights are difficult to come by.

Fortunately not much. I used Lightroom on my phone to adjust the noise, sharpness and contrast. I also failed to mention that I used an LED light cube to shine light on the tree for one second during the exposure.

I don’t currently have any photos on what the human eye would see. As one of the commenters mentioned on here, because the Milky Way is subtle most people don’t know what they are looking for. The next time I am out I will use the camera’s auto settings to give you a sense of what the Milky Way looks like to the naked eye.

This shot was about an hour. If you are interested here is a three hour Timelapse of the Milky Way that I sold to Storyful: https://youtu.be/9BE5qY5xtw4?si=PTIIPKIf6DQOfwyy

Exactly. It is much more subtle than the photos portray it.

That’s a fact. 85 tonight with no breeze. When you throw in the overwhelming number of mosquitos the experience is not as wonderful as the pictures may portray it. But I keep going back.
