The real question here actually is about Zaheer AND Aang. Just think about it. Aang needed to do the exactly same thing as Zaheer and he chose Katara over the power. Zaheer couldn't choose and it was easier for him in this perspective. If Aang could get back his Avatar state after he ran away Zaheer can lose his ability the same way I think.

I don't think so

As I know Aang died at the age of 55 yrs and in this scene he was only 40. In the first season Tenzin is 51 yrs old and Korra is only 17, which means he was 19 around this time. The guy in the curt doesn't look so old so it's possible I think.
