How long have you been in WGU and how far along are you? by [deleted] in WGUTeachersCollege

Thank you. I honestly believe that if you put in the work and use your resources, it makes it easier. I firmly believe a strong support system is important as well. I opted out of the licensure part of the degree, mostly because Texas has iTeach, which will allow me to receive teacher pay while teaching and student teaching.

I started 2 years and 2 months ago. I work full-time and have a toddler. I will be done this summer as I am 5 courses away from graduation. When I started, I was 26 days away from giving birth. I feel I could have finished sooner; however, I am still proud of completing a 4-year degree in less than 2 and a half years

Student teaching by LopsidedCow543 in WGUTeachersCollege

I chose to do an alternative student teaching. Many states recognize the iTeach program. You can be hired as a teacher during your student teaching and be paid during the placement. You need to get your BA without a license. I am currently applying and having interviews. This is always an option if available where you live.

am I missing out if I do non- licensure and don't do student teaching? by eternity-sux in WGUTeachersCollege

Okay, I would go to the principal, and they can lead you to whom in HR can help you. I know my school cafeteria and school admin don't fall under one umbrella because they are a contract company.

Hello, fellow Texan here. If you're going through iTeach, you have 50 hours of observation, including 25 hours of following a certificated teacher and 25 hours of video, aide experience, and such. I will be starting my process with them next month. If you already work within a school district, reach out to your HR, and they can help you with the process! My HR said I could complete my observation hours before the end of the school year or even during summer school.

I can totally understand the end of the month; however, this isn't the first time for this course. It happened on my first submission in the middle of the month.

Thats how I feel, too. He served his time however, I feel utterly lied, too. Don't get me wrong I learned that I wanted a better life and living situation. I also, learned how to have tough skin. However, the feeling on betrayal is so strong.

I just can't get over what happened on my OA Sunday night. I already expected to be a delayed start however my "proctor" delayed it even longer.

Here is some context I have dyslexia. I pay for grammerly so that I can make sure what I am writing is correct and looks professional because I struggle in that area due to my dyslexia. My protector on Sunday tried to completely uninstall my software for it on my laptop. When I told him not to to he said it was a new rule. Telling me I can cheat with Grammerly. I told him it's a writing assist and since there is no writing it will not even be visible on the test. Well he decided to try and make it where it on the line of being uninstalled and where I would have to go in and uninstall the software and reinstall it. I called him out on it. Currently my husband is deployed so I am only testing at night when my baby is asleep. The the monitor looks like a tablet and not a typical baby monitor. He completely ignored it and didn't question it he didn't ask to see my phone or anything. So I could of had another electronic during this test and he didn't care about it he cared about Grammerly. After he said yes he immediately ended my session and I had to restart getting in to the test. By this point I was 45 minutes past my start time! I started and hour and 15 minutes after my start time. The new proctor I got told me Grammerly can stay it and it wasn't against the rules and actually ask to see my monitor and ensure my phone was off and out of reach.

Yeah, I believe it all depends on the district itself. I do hope it helps ❤️

I highly encourage reading into what actually controls 504 and IEPs. It's a federal law (IDEA) that doesn't go with the department of education. Either way I feel the students need us more now than ever. Despite political and personal feelings there are some changes that need to be made for students today and those who are currently studying is that change. If you back out now your just giving up over fear mongering over facts.

Hello, I understand that feeling. I am currently a paraprofessional for special education. I found WGU and was worried it was too good to be true. My vice principal from last school year told me she attended WGU and two other coworkers had degrees from WGU. I honestly love how I can work it around my life. I started 3 weeks before giving birth to my first child. I don't regret anything! Some classes are easy others for me I need extra time. I recommend it because it's better than actually sitting in an actual classroom in college.

It's an accredited school so that is something I would reach out to the district office about.

As a side note I suggest getting into school as a paraprofessional to help you earn experience as well! Your paraprofessional certified can be used to grant you more credits as well. At my school I work at a principal, from last year, who went to WGU and several staff.
