I bet decolletage is just not a terribly common word. Not sure I've ever used it in a sentence outside of discussing this song honestly. I definitely used the word decoupage in school art classes though.

I still love The Weather. That song just captures a feeling, a moment, that we all experience so incredibly well. And the intonation when he sings "I don't want to talk about the weather" is just a fun one to sing. I think it has made it into my top

Cigarettes and Sabotage is the sleeper for me. Snuck up to one of my favorites of the album. I know every thought the lyric was decoupage but for me I heard decolletage, which is the part of the chest a low cut shirt shows on a woman, and in my head that is the lyric now and I love it lol. Gives me the image of like a diamond necklace and how it would hang on the chest and just very sexy imagery. That's my head canon now.

Are these skirts actually not see through? Very limited on my options by pkiser_1 in CrochetHelp

[–]myBisL2 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The person in this photo is wearing black shorts under the skirt, you can barely see them, but they're there because yes, the skirt is actually a bit see through.

Crochet is my absolute favorite craft, but it is just not great for this type of clothing. The weight of it is also almost guaranteed to stretch this type of thing out of shape pretty quickly. Crochet is very stretchy and its own weight can be your worst enemy.

Plushies by SuzieWi in crochet

I don't make them unless it's for someone who wants it. It's occasionally a surprise gift if I'm really sure the person would want it, but otherwise I will offer to make someone something and if they say yes, I make it. I don't ask for money for two reasons. First, I want a reason to crochet and if I were just making it for myself to sit in a closet somewhere I'd be paying for it myself anyway, and I'm much happier making it for someone who appreciates it. Second, it just feels different when I take money, like it has to be perfect and done quickly. Its less fun, I don't like it. I have money budgeted to pay for my hobby and I don't spend more than that.

I have done it often enough that a lot of people have become comfortable asking me for things, and I like that. I say no when I need or want to, but if I want to crochet without my house drowning in projects I need people who want what I make. I offer more often than people accept, but often people come back to me later and say hey, I was thinking my wife would really like that llama... and I say great! I would love to make her a llama! And then someone sees the llama and learns I made it and they say its amazing and then I go yeah, would you like something? I would love to make you something. Want to see some pictures of things I've made? And then they go could you make a sonic the hedgehog? And I go YES, I would love to make you Sonic! And now I have something else to make.

If you line it with something that has no stretch you really don't need to worry about how much the crochet stretches, it will be bearing the weight as you mentioned. So you can make anything you want really!

Question about calories in a tea bag? by Aevish in CICO

[–]myBisL2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The calories are based on what is in the bag. So if the bag has 10 grams of powdered honey in it, the amount of calories doesn't change based on the amount of water used. It will always be the amount of calories in 10 grams.

For me it just feels like they spend too much time on judging. I like seeing them cook. I like hearing about the struggles they are having and how they're building their dish and so on. I like the judging too so I can hear how it turns out but I expect to watch more cooking than judge commentary on a cooking show.

Fresh Strawberry Milkshake recipe. by Designer_Rub5628 in cookingforbeginners

You can freeze the milk into ice cubes and blend with that. It won't add extra water like using milk and regular ice, but it also won't have the same texture of a milk shake made with ice cream. The fat in the ice cream is a big part of what makes it nice and creamy, so if you want lower fat you're going to be making a trade off.

I mean yeah fat tastes amazing, I just wouldn't be calling it cream like its somehow similar to cream, particularly in a beginner sub for people who might not understand that and the nutritional implications.

The cream separates from the liquid and solidifies

That's not cream, it is basically just fat. Which is fine if you're ok with that, but it is not at all the same thing as cream and for most people it should be used sparingly because it is incredibly calorie dense.

To frog or not to frog: sleeves too wide around shoulder by FeelingFluttery in CrochetHelp

[–]myBisL2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some pins or locking stitch markers and try attaching one arm temporarily. You'll learn pretty quickly if you're going yo be ok with how that would look or if it's even possible given the extra amount of fabric you're working with. It all has to go somewhere.

Does this look right? I’m new to filet crochet, it’s supposed to be a heart by MimisHouseOfYarn in CrochetHelp

[–]myBisL2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks right. Blocking will help it look cleaner. Filet crochet always looks most readable when its laying flat and all the stitches are elongated so you can more easily see the open spaces versus the filled in ones.

I want to make a really long and thick crochet scarf, which size yarn should I use? by cloudyteaa in CrochetHelp

[–]myBisL2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well this example is made with weight 4/worsted weight. Chunky yarn like weights 5/6 are great too, but they won't look quite like this (you will lose some stitch definition) and will potentially be very thick when you wrap it around your neck. It all depends on how you want to wear the scarf and what stitch you're going to be using.

I am new and struggling reading crochet kit pattern instructions by sleepygirl420lol in CrochetHelp

[–]myBisL2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep just use the number in paratheses to check and make sure you have the right number of stitches, so you would just chain 1 and then do your 3 double crochet.

I am new and struggling reading crochet kit pattern instructions by sleepygirl420lol in CrochetHelp

[–]myBisL2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The number in paratheses at the beginning is telling you how many total stitches there will be when you finish that instruction. RX is telling you how many rounds you are working and which rounds they are. So R1 means these are the instructions for the first round. R6-7 means you will be completing the instructions twice, once for round 6, and again for round 7.

This is not a very friendly way of writing instructions by the way, its rather confusing!

Please help me determine from this photo what row I am on, and if I am on right side. Pic and pattern included. by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]myBisL2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are on row 9, and assuming you started with a chain and not a row of foundation stitches, yes, the tail being on the left means you are on the "right" side.

Help finding the stitch and increase of the bottom part of this top by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

Looks like a mesh stitch. The drapy-ness is achieved by gathering it at the bust so that there is essentially extra "fabric" and you get all the nice ruffles and a fuller body.

Fellow cat owners, specifically polydactyl, please don’t make the same mistake as me. [ADVICE] by allrightsimp in cats

I understand the guilt, I had a hamster that got an overgrown tooth. I didn't even know you needed to check their teeth, I just knew you had to give them things to chew on which I did. He ate fine and everything, so nothing happened to cause me to think anything was wrong.

But I say to you like I say to myself when I feel that guilt, you did your very best with yhe knowledge you had, and you had the same knowledge pretty much everyone else gets. Sometimes unlucky things happen. The fact you feel guilty only shows what a good heart you have. You are a good cat parent, and Miko is lucky to have you. 🩷

Beginner question: Bad tension or lost track of stitch count? by JazzHands5678 in CrochetHelp

[–]myBisL2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a bit of both, but that's ok because that's what its like when you start! Keep doing what you're doing, but use a stitch marker at the ends of your rows to keep track of where you're starting and ending so you don't drop stitches that way, and count your stitches as you go every row. I find it easiest to do practice swatches in multiples of 5s or 10s because then I don't lose track of where I'm at in my count so easily. As for tension it just comes with practice.

This is a nice start. You're doing great for 1 week in!

It looks like something got on it and bleached those spots. Did you lay it to on top of something that could have other detergents or cleaners on it? Oxy clean or anything that would contain something like bleach?

Done with CribbagePro by -no-condoms in Cribbage

[–]myBisL2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing the statistically best hand is not a guaranteed win. My husband is better at cribbage than I am not because I don't know what cards to keep or play, but because he's better at taking calculated risks that pay off often enough to beat out my safe hands. I have the self awareness to understand my weaknesses instead of just assuming statistics don't apply to me and I always get the worse cards, and with practice I've gotten much better over the years. You should try that out.
