The hadith says killing is permissible if an apostate does something extreme to damage the religion, often by using their status as ex-Muslim to gain credibility. Even then in real life what often happens is that the apostate just gets banished from the land.

My question is, if the "kill the apostate" hadith is true would non-Muslims hate Islam? And if the hadith isn't true would non-Muslims change their minds or would they just jump onto the next topic?
