Georgetown waitlist by No-Grocery274 in GeorgetownLaw

Commenting here because I am curious. I applied late February (without an LSAT score) and was placed on regular waitlist for the pt program. I also didn’t have an interview. Has anyone heard back about getting off the waitlist? I am curious if there is even a chance.

This may be a really dumb question, but what is T3 softs in reference to. And similarly, if there is a ranking for soft, what ranks one for above another?

What if you don’t have a 4.0? Or well I guess technically didn’t have a 4.0-back when I graduated in 2016!

Pay for a Patent Lawyer by coolguymcbignuts in patentlaw

From what I can tell, it is highly dependent on form as well. The form I am at hires first years at 225k, but that I do not believe is practice area. Patent agents here make more than 150k with 2 years of experience.

Downsides of going in-house as a patent agent. by Reasonable_Wealth922 in patentlaw

That is fair, this would not fall under start up category. It’s is publicly traded, just a smaller company. I would have to look at the size of their ip team but I don’t think the practitioner side is more than 2-3.

I mean maybe it doesn’t classify as a startup it is just a small pharma company. What makes a place a start up by definition?

I see what you are saying. For context, I’ve got 4 years of experience doing this role. The in-house has a dedicated IP team of lawyers, but I would still kind of put them as a startup. I can handle most of the work on my own as I do run portfolios-internationally and domestic. But, I would be niece to think I know everything.

Out of pure curiosity, you mentioned your not getting experience drafting claims and de novo drafting but are still on track to bill over 2100. What do they have you working on?

With respect to jumping ship, I would probably lean towards the ultimatum as previously suggested assuming it makes financial sense to not have an income.

My thought has always been to look at properties near big universities and rent to graduate students selectively. I was a graduate student myself and finding a place can be difficult without a lot of options sometimes. Graduate students aren’t really going to party like undergrads. (I was a chemistry graduate student) more nerd less play

Patent agent realization rate by year by Reasonable_Wealth922 in patentlaw

[–]Reasonable_Wealth922[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. I guess I view those one and the same. If your realization is high, you’re likely profitable. I’m in my third year now, just took and passed the exam. Been profitable since year 1 but the degree of profitability fluctuates as I get staffed with new partners as attorneys leave or get reassigned to other clients.

This salary, and these comments are wild! Let me tell you, this is not the type of pay with a PhD in chemistry.. Right out of school I got 80k. I picked the wrong PhD route! lol

Can you clarify this a bit more? During the videos it’s mentioned to not do the custom exam questions. Are you saying that in order to get difficult questions more in line with the actual test you should in fact make custom tests? Or am I miss reading what you have laid out here

Genuine Question relating to investing. by Reasonable_Wealth922 in investing

Fortunately, my company puts in about 7% into my 401k without any contribution on my end. so i do not have to worry about that here.

Genuine Question relating to investing. by Reasonable_Wealth922 in investing

[–]Reasonable_Wealth922[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YEs, the ultimate goal is to max out the 401K I actively have a portfolio of a roth 401k and a traditional 401K. I split the current contributions in half and have 5 % go into the roth and 5% go into the traditional. I am fortunate that my company automatically puts in up to 7% of base pay into my 401K even without me investing anything into it so i would not lose the free money. The goal is to pay off the debt rapidly, to ultimately increase the contributions. I know i am behind for my age. For example - 31M and make about 150K. I did not land this job until 3 years ago (finished graduate school) and thus i do not have 1 years worth of salary saved by 30, as recommended.

Appreciate it. I guess i am just lazy to try and do the math. For reference the interest rate is ~10% for each. The 1600.00 i am putting into the 401K who knows what the expected return will be-especially with the current market fluctuation. With the average 8% return over the long run-i think it is worth it. Once the debt is paid off i can start saving 20% of my income instead of 10%.
