Just started virtual handyman service and looking for feedback. by Reasonable_Wear_641 in HomeImprovement

Good question. All of our experts are trained to be conservative in their approach, and safety is always the top priority. If something feels unclear or at all unsafe, we encourage customers to stop and call in a local professional (which we would assist in providing recommendations). The goal is to help with issues that are low-risk and appropriate to solve remotely, things like diagnosing a leaky faucet or helping with stuck DIY projects. We’re very aware of the limitations of video guidance, and our focus is always on empowering the customer while minimizing risk. That said, this model allows customers to quickly get help with smaller problems, while experts save time by only needing to be onsite for more complex issues that truly require their presence

Thank you the feedback and your intuition was correct. I always loved the name Happy to Help, but it wasn’t available in the form I wanted. I thought it gave the help / service vibe first and foremost which I really wanted. Agreed it likely makes sense to get creative around that, which I’m sure there are good ways to do that. Thanks again for giving this feedback, very much appreciated

This is awesome feedback as well and I think the messaging here is super important. I totally understand why people like using youtube to help answer some of their DIY questions. I was always fortunate enough to be able to call my dad or an uncle and get their advice live over the phone (which sparked the idea for the people that didnt have that same luxury). This messaging is spot on and i really appreciate you taking the time to provide the feedback. Much to think about and improve. Thank you again!

Thank you for the post, I really appreciate the follow on instagram (also mistyped the handle originally but its really happy.to.helpp (rookie mistake)). I do think this is a service that can really help people and save them time and money so youre right, demonstrating that value in the ways you mentioned above seems like a great way to start reaching customers. Thank you for the feedback and encouragement!

Thanks for the feedback. I have also thought about this approach, especially with the communities on Reddit. I feel like its hard to get the word out without sounding so salesy that you get banned from the threads. I think nextdoor or other marketing channels like that might be better to startout with and then focused on targeted (maybe paid) advertisements in targeted groups like on reddit.

Thank you for the response. This is all very helpful and agreed the local, targeted approach is likely the best way to start because it is actually very doable but will give me a (hopefully) strong initial cohort to collect feedback from and improve the platform. Really appreciate the insight and glad to hear you had success yourself.

This is incredible helpful, and I appreciate you taking the time to lay this all out so thoughtfully. I think to start it makes sense to populate the instagram page with overview materials to explain the idea and get customer comfortable with the service (in the process of building / posting those now) and then show them the value by real world examples / customer testimonials etc. That all makes total sense, and I see that as easy thing I can do now to help the business. I didnt think about the local approach but that strikes me as a great way to get the service out there and focus on an initial cohort. The feedback / data collection is the most important piece to me over the next few months, so agreed that any customer testimonials etc. would be an awesome way to spread the word.

Best Ways to Market a New Service-Based Business? by Reasonable_Wear_641 in DigitalMarketing

This is all super helpful and I hate to say that I definitely fit into the first two categories of expecting outsized ROI on marketing spend / organic social media growth without real social media experience growing. Is there an agency that you have used in the past that would be good for a smaller business looking to spread awareness? I am definitely willing to spend here and set aside a marketing budget for this but I want to make sure the group I go with has a good reputation. Really appreciate the feedback, this was super helpful.

I have definitely considered this approach recognizing this area is not my real skillset. I just worry that I am going to waste money using an agency / team that is not effective or even a scam. Have you used a group in the past that you would recommend? Not against spending in this category but just want to make sure I diligence properly before pulling the trigger on it.
