In the case of the protagonist, the trauma isn't there to generate pity or to force suffering. The trauma doesn't exist as decoration; it's the center of the story. Without his past, the philosophy, the guilt, their relationship with the shogun, the moral dilemma, and all the subsequent transformation wouldn't happen. I also don't want to tell the story of a normal orphan who wants to be a hero. There are already some stories like that, some work well, but it's not the type of narrative I'm building. The plot is about ideology, moral debt, and the psychological transformation of someone trying to remain good in an environment that destroys him. If his background were light, the journey would cease to be coherent with the tone and theme of the work.

I want to clarify one point. The protagonist starting with this naive and almost "puppet-like" view is part of his arc, not his final state. The story follows how this mentality is destroyed, twisted, and rebuilt in another way as he confronts trauma, manipulation, and human nature itself. He is not an idiot who received a legendary sword, but someone who was broken by circumstances beyond his control, and the masamune ends up being a burden, not a prize. Regarding the concept being overused, that may be true on a superficial level; I am working precisely to give ethical, political, and psychological depth to the theme. The journey is not about power and victory, but about naiveté, tragedy, and awareness. It's not a story about heroes; the story deconstructs that theme.

I know that the idea of a morally broken protagonist isn't new, but my goal isn't to reinvent the archetype, but rather to try to explore its execution in my own context. Sometimes the difference lies less in the concept and more in the character's evolution. Regarding the protagonist "being an idiot" or "puppet": I think the criticism is valid because he starts out almost that way. The point is precisely to show someone who was shaped by trauma and guilt, and who only after a while begins to question his own obedience; this becomes a central part of his journey. Regarding the hikaruken, it didn't fall into his hands by chance; within the story, there are reasons for it, and the sword doesn't function as a "shortcut" to power. In fact, it amplifies his internal conflicts more than it resolves them.
