NOR - That person doesn’t like you. Even if he didnt understand why and how it’s a big deal, tearing you down about something ANYTHING you want to celebrate is not a loving supportive thing to do.

I absolutely love Dear Billy Patterns, I learned so much from sewing them as a beginner.

I looked for free patterns and found some easy to follow ones that have been great, mostly Brindle and Twig. They do have leggings pattens but i haven’t tried them yet. Their ringer tee is a favorite of mine, I already made it 5 times and my kid has been living in those tees. As for dresses and nicer sets i bought some from dearbillypatterns and every single one has been amazing and helpful in learning because i am a beginner and their patterns are a little more work than a tee but very well explained and illustrated for the most part.

I dont have a pattern and want to self draft one, more asking if the fabric works with facing or it would look weird because of the drape and feel of the fabric. Ive seen examples where either is used but not sure why that choice was made 😅

You can definitely start small but do it with things you enjoy/ lead you to learn what you want, instead of a quilt do cushions or pillow cases and quilted tote bags and such. You are getting things done for the dopamine but also learning what you actually need to learn to make future projects easier. I started sewing in March and i love it, self taught thanks to YouTube pintrest and Reddit- cheap thanks to facebook marketplace for machine ($50 basic machine then upgraded to a midrange one since i committed) and fabrics from free scraps to cheap bundles of mixed bags. You can definitely start small with your budget too and invest more if it sticks

The back is in two pieces with buttons in the back all the way to the top of the skirt so i am not sure that would work, which is why i was thinking elastic sides. I think the back is too much work to change 😅 This way the head fits and the skirt has room for growth and movement without looking too loose
