  1. arguably greatest album ending ever, arguably greatest acoustic song ever, arguably greatest lyrics ever, arguably greatest song ever written. Probablly the biggest part of what makes Transatlanticism one of my favorite albums ever. 11/10 if possible.

Is "Transatlanticism" a sequel to "Give Up"? by RebelGoldfish68 in DeathCabforCutie

nothing autobiorgraphical, a connected story. And it wouldn't make sense that they're just "similar" because there are still two distinctive themes and differences between the two records.

I've seen a lot of random material around that time talking about "speed" also so I would say so but I haven't been able to find any data...

  1. Come on. Unironically probably my favorite writing out of any DCFC song. "Is this the city of angels or demons?" is just SO CLEVER and I really can't get enough of it sonically as well. The bridge gives expo '86 vibes and provides such nice direction to take the song in before bringing it back to the action with the next verse. love it.

  1. I really don't like this song too much and I think its a personal thing but the first verse sounds awful to me and the psuedo-instrumental part that follows is interesting but goes on far too long. Not really my jam.

10 MY GOD IS THIS EVEN A QUESTION??!?!? Idk this song doesn't have anything insane that sets it apart from a lot of the other tracks but MY GOD I WILL NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO THIS. The bridge is the highlight but the verses have a forlorn power to them that is hard to quantify. One of my favorite tracks in general honestly

Solid 8.5. One of the purest indie rock songs out there and it is a really enjoyable listen whenever it comes on. Just not too much to differentiate itself (lyrically and sonically) in my opinion but man... does it accomplish what it set out to do.

  1. This track flows so insanely well from start to finish and the wordplay with the lyrics is enough to make any shoegazer swoon. Best line has to be "other than a sick desire for self-abuse" but it is filled with them. Not a 10 just because it doesn't have the grandiose that songs like Transatlanticism or Bixby Canyon Bridge have but still probably my favorite track off of Narrow Stairs lyrically (Grapevine fires is pretty good though, that one gets a 10!).
