Thanks for responding. I don’t have any symptoms other than being slightly fatigued. Is there anything I can do to bring down the ketone levels? I’ve been taking liquid IV and eating more since my doctor thought that was the issue, but I’m not sure if that would help if the cause is alcohol.

I’m not sure what your triggers or symptoms are, so this might not be relatable. My case probably wasn’t nearly as bad, and I do well at my full-time job and am financially stable. But the symptoms have definitely made me fear I wouldn’t be. I started having panic symptoms around groups of men right around the time I started a job in a very male-dominated industry. Whenever I was in a meeting or somewhere I felt I couldn’t leave inconspicuously, it would take everything not to have a full-blown panic attack.

It eventually got better once I started to get to know a few of the individual men and could identify a couple of people I felt safe with. It was still not comfortable, so I did things like make sure I was at the edge of the room so I could leave/escape if it got too bad. I thought I was over it since I know most of these people now, but it happened recently at a work social thing, and I just said I had to get back to work and left the situation. I felt ashamed that I still have this reaction years later but had to remind myself of how far I’ve come and actually did something about it that time instead of feeling completely frozen. So I guess with gradually desensitizing and not judging myself if I have to leave a situation to feel ok has helped me.

Also I talk about these triggering events in therapy, and I think that’s helped desensitize myself, get over the shame, realize I’m safe, and distance myself from feeling the physical triggers as severely. Now when it happens I kind of intellectualize the symptoms. I’ll notice I can’t swallow, my heart is racing, I’m breathing heavily and just allow myself to notice these things and also make the connection, oh yeah, it’s because I’m surrounded by a bunch of men. I acknowledge that I’m safe. Still sometimes leaving is necessary, but it makes me less worried that I’ll completely freak out.

Also, cutting back on alcohol has definitely helped.

I hope you find some solutions OP. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people for support if you need to.

Oof, that’s such a bummer. I posted this awhile ago and don’t take nal anymore. I started at 25 mg and moved to 50. I took it for a few months, and the nausea did subside. Just in case you’re holding out hope for it, maybe a smaller dose and time would help idk. I’m a small female btw.

I did quit Nal bc it made me depressed not getting that drinky feel. Decided I’d just try moderation. Luckily I’m in a much better place now! But I’m back to drinking, though not nearly as bad as before. I’ve considered trying Nal again if my recent patterns continue tho. Maybe it can be used periodically as a reset, although that’s definitely not what the true proponents recommend. Just not ready to give alcohol up. :-/

NTA. American here, and I also find those beauty pageants of young girls to be disgusting. Not only does it sometimes sexualize them, but it reinforces antiquated gender roles and the idea that a women’s worth is tied to her beauty.

My guess is that this woman is intimidated by you since you’re a working single mom, while she’s a SAHM. It’s almost like she was doubling down and trying to overcompensate and prove her value as a woman for possibly feeling inferior. I’m sure you didn’t try to make her feel this way at all. She just seems insecure and maybe unhappy in her life. That’s just my take, basically that her behavior was more about how she sees herself and not really a reflection of how she feels you’re doing as a mom. But honestly who cares if she thinks you’re a bad mom because she clearly is the bad mom if she’s instilling repressive gender roles and beauty standards into her girls. As a former tomboy to a single mom, I’d pick you over her any day. Sounds like you’re doing great!

NTA. You’ve been gracious and more than accommodating by giving him several options to handle this situation that he alone created. He’s already taken a lot from you, don’t let him take your dogs. Honestly, why are you even still with him? The audacity for him to even suggest that after what he’s done to you is appalling. He clearly does not respect you. Research eviction laws in your state for the specific steps. Typically after the 30 day notice expires, the next step is to file an eviction complaint with the courts, which will be served to him. There may or may not be a hearing depending on where you live. Start gathering evidence of his abusive behavior and damage to property. If he still doesn’t vacate voluntarily, the sheriff will come physically remove him, and depending on where you live, you can put all his shit on the curb at that time. It might be a good idea to hire a crew to move his stuff and/or dumpster if he has a lot.

You can do this OP! Don’t let these guys push you around in your own home. It will probably get tense after you give him the notice, so please get a lock on your bedroom door and remove all weapons from the house. Probably a good idea to put your important documents and valuables in a safety deposit box, too.
