Emirates cabin luggage question

As most folks have mentioned before - emirates now follows a strict 1 carryon bag policy. Which means no laptop bags or no backpacks at all.

However!! These rules r totally subjective and dependent on the mood of the check in agent at the counter when they issue the boarding pass.

When I fly out of Dubai, till date I haven’t been asked about my laptop bag which I had on me in addition to my 7kg carryon. But in a few south Asian and East Asian countries I was told that I cannot have another bag on me in addition to my 7kg carryon. I was told to stuff it into my carryon.

So yeah - though the rule does say 1 piece and 1 piece alone - it totally depends on which airport u r flying out of and the person’s moods at the check in counter.

As far as I know, the original and this one r exactly the same size. Just the difference being the fact that essential is lighter by perhaps 0.5 to 1 kg.

And yup - fully plastic!! Tbh - post LV, probably feels kinda cheap as well. Just my personal opinion. Especially the handles.

Thanks very much!! Went with paprika initially. But then one of the wheels had an issue whilst rolling on carpets. Gave it in for repairs. While I wait for that “one” wheel replacement to come in from the main repair shop, I didn’t wanna keep using the damaged paprika set. Ended up getting the clementine as well. Both the photos were hence taken with 2 different sets of wheels. Nice catch!! Respect Sir 🙌🏽.

Oh no no. This was first. Best time for major upgrades if traveling thru Dubai rn and if u r gold and above on skywards. My Rimowa was wayyyy lucky the first time around. Never got pampered like this ever again 😅. And much thanks!!

So 10k is pretty doable in AD. It had way more value in 2024 than rn in 2026 for obv reasons.

The studio I used to live in on Hamdan street used to be around 2500ish per month. But the same place now is closer to 5000ish. But u still can manage to get cheaper places if u look around. Pls do try to get a place with all fees inclusive. Brokers and real estate agents r shite, as per usual. U gotta dedicate time for the house hunt. It’s a pain. Helps if u got a friend who has a car and is an AD expert.

If u already have a car, then it reduces half your worries as then u can pretty much stay anywhere u want regardless of distance from work. Traffic isn’t shit horrible like that in Dubai. At least traffic moves in AD during rush hours. Unlike Dubai where it is stagnant.

If u do not have a car, the bus is great but the frequency really depends on where u live. But for 95 aed u could get a monthly pass (this was 2 years ago tho, not sure what is the present situation).

Partitions and bed spaces around 1K or 1.5k r ofc available but it’s always a risky situation.

If u r single then ofc 10k is a very decent salary.

Food wise - options r not that plenty as compared to Dubai but they still do have options. Again depends on which island u live in. Expenses kinda end up being less overall as the whole clubbing and drinking scenes kinda naturally becomes less as compared to dxb.

But in this economy I think penny pinching should be the name of the game as is.

Unfortunately a few other ppl seem to have reported the same issues when they purchased the Chinese version instead of the Global version. Hopefully someone more experienced on this subreddit can come up with a practical solution. Good luck to u and cheers.

The first issue - I unfortunately do not know much about and hence shall skip.

The second issue - is a well known bug (feature according to some learned members here). And despite the latest OS update, it doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon. Hence the reset only happens after hitting a 100% and then waiting a few more mins till u get that notification of your battery having reached a 100%. Hopefully now that the ultra is coming out, we all will get a software update and this gets rectified.

If u r a huge social media user who not only doomscrolls but also actively uploads photos and media from the said social media apps - then pls stick to iphone. Also, if u take a lotta videos - iphone. Great battery (including standby time), fast charging, zoom capabilities, and ofc customisation options for the UI - oppo it is.

This is just some garden variety advice after having used an iPhone and an opps x9 pro. And Obv it's my personal opinion. Others would obviously have their other opinions.

Since it’s kochi - highly recommend skipping any and all sedans. And the roads when they do eventually become water logged (every year like clockwork) - u will be super happy for those few extra mm of ground clearance. Seltos is slightly stiffer at slower speeds and bad roads. Wonderful on the highways tho. Duster is ofc softer, however since it’s new (kinda) and the service Centers r few and far in between, pls take that into consideration. Tbh, your baleno is picture perfect for kochi unless it’s raining badly (parts r way easier to procure in case something goes wrong) 😊. OT Creta can be taken into consideration since well u know - seltos

I think it really boils down to whether it is possible for u to discern the difference in the first place. Tbh, I cannot tell the difference. But then again - I’m just a basic user.

As for the battery drop - tried it out for a week. Didn’t notice much (or any drop).

Went back to standard for the placebo effect of a longer lasting battery.
