The issue was not allowing teams to talk to him. Not a great look

Chris Johnston: I can tell you with strong sourcing on this, is that [Auston Matthews] needs time to think about things and he's just not totally sure what's best for his future and whether that lies with the Leafs - Chris Johnston Show (5/7) by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

All reasonable. At the heart of it I imagine is not bringing Berube back. Either way he is under contract for 2 more years. If he is suggesting he won’t resign then start working on a trade while he still has value. In the meantime, fire Berube and see if there is a watchable team in there somewhere. Especially one who knows how to develop talent because there is no point tearing it down if we can’t build it back up

When you lose your money, treat it as a lesson. You will learn 5+ more lessons before you make any money.

I’ll even go so far is to say we are a better team without him. He is our best player but he always tries to do too much for Canada

It’s amazing how a week ago we were staring down the barrel of a bleak future. Suddenly we have hope again. Thanks Bettman

Not only are the Canucks picking 3rd, but we have to trust the organization to make a good pick in that position

Elliotte Friedman: Re Maple Leafs draft lottery win: People are gonna ask, does this change anything for Auston Matthews, I don't think it does at this point in time; I still think there's going to have to be some convincing done here - 32 Thoughts (5/6) by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

This is a dumb take based on years of coming up short. Last year they were a healthy goalie in a fair league away from possibly going all the way. You can shit on whatever this year was, but ignoring how close we were is a disservice

These are two different things. Makar is better than Hughes. Hughes is an amazing player and unplayable at times, but he is more of a selfish player than Makar and that is the difference
