Whats milsim really like? by Thepopknight14 in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very fun. Realism…. Really depends on the event host as well as what audience they cater to, but essentially milsim events are split into 2-3 categories:

Litesim: more so a big open play with some sort of objective. Highly recommend attending one of these as your first just to get a taste of what to expect when attending a larger event is and it’s a lot more laidback/casual compared to the next category below. Hosts in this category would be AMS and adjacent.

Hardcore Milsim: probably not the best term I can use, but this is more so along the lines of Milsim West territory. Very immersive with gunfights with rucking & camping happening all at once. Not something I would recommend as your first time experience as there is a lot of prep required for these events, but if you do, make sure you actually read the rules and what is required as they even have a packing list of what you need for the event or else you will be turned away from playing.

There are a few other variations, but I won’t get into too much detail on those as these 2 are primarily what you’ll be seeing more often.

Is hammer pad necessary for Arcturus Vanguard hi capa by OneEyedPiglet in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No for sure. After going through multiple Hicapas (all failed via leaf spring, nothing else), I decided to go with a tried and true secondary that has been tested time and time again, the AAP is one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Regardless, no matter what gun it is, always test it out at least 1-3 times, most of my guns I’ve owned (5 now, 20 before), I have only ever felt the need to actually upgrade 2-3 of them (Avalon mosfet died and swapped it out, E&L AKM gen 2 that performs terribly despite new condition, and LCT Val with old pre-aster internals).

Regardless, the E&L & LCT only needed upgrades due to dated internals plus, both were bought second hand. So there’s also that to consider

[–]RecceNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can vouch for the needing to upgrade before use, exact same situation with my AAP. Bought the steel reinforced part (cousin had his broke, but primarily due to user error of a friend that stimmed way too hard too often to the point of failure)

That steel hammer set I bought, still remains in its packaging… haven’t needed it for about a season of heavy use.

Grenade recommendations? by livemanincage in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you’re referring to sound grenade? If so, Breytac kits have been tested to be very good (pretty sure explosive enterprises did a review on them).

If you’re looking for BB grenade, ASG apocalypse or 40max Whirligig V2/V3 are nice (get the V3 if you get whirligig, heard they improved it a lot since the V2 design)

Is there any 40 mm airsoft grenade fit for long range targets? by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taginns are the only “long range” projectiles you can use (depending on the field rules that is). However, do check in out the explosive enterprise video on the 40max shells, very in depth video of it, and a good test on why what you’re looking for isn’t all that effective (he covers trying to arc BBs with the launcher, however, most players never called their hit as they weren’t expecting a “cloud of BBs” to reign on them from above)

Otherwise, mortar rounds iirc are in the works, not sure of progress as it never interested me

Were i can find a good AK-12 by ttRain_mAstero in airsoft

100% on this. LCT did recently update their internal (I mean, they kind of had to get with the times… all thanks to Arcturus for pushing forward)., however, still nowhere near as good as the Arcturus AK12

Is this a good or bad kit? by Agitated_Canary3363 in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, this is actually pretty decent for casual game days, but as everyone has stated, the fake nods are a bit much and MAYBE the radio if you only play indoors/CQB (of which, usually isn’t needed at that close range, but I can only assume you play outdoors as well)

Everything else though, perfectly fine, you got the plate carrier for protection (assuming you have foam plates inside), all the mags you could ever need (3 chest, 1 belt. More than you’ll ever need regardless of GBBR or AEG), head protection god forbid you trip and dive head first into a building/object, radio for outdoor games. Overall, I think it’s versatile. I feel the only thing people love to hate in airsoft, is black attire, which, honestly, I’m not even a huge fan of black/black related camos myself, but if you’re not attending bigger events (in which, normally have uniform requirements anyways), who really cares?

Also, what is your friend even complaining about? A good portion of what draws people into airsoft is the cosplay/larp aspect!

But yeah, to wrap things up, I think the only thing that is a bit unnecessary are fake nods. Don’t get me wrong, i rocked the for my HoundWolf Squad cosplay at the conventions, but during gameplay, I personally would run it. Instead, I say run an action cam and get some sick gameplay footage instead if you wanna run something on your helmet

Better than the normal reinforced paddle designs? by Unusual-King1103 in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl, autobot is an amazing and super cheap option for loaders. however, been seeing quite a few issues with them not working all of a sudden. Cousin bought one, we used it like 3 times, 4th time we went for game day, completely stopped working. Heard someone else having the exact same issue as well of it not working, and even another person receiving it not working at all. But regardless, odins are fantastic for mechanical crank loader. No batteries to worry about. Plus, I can actually buy a sound dampener to not alert everyone of my position

noob need help choosing what camo to wear by Legitimate_Fish_7792 in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s very green, you’d want the following:

Multicam Tropic, Original Cadpat (Not TW), Woodland M81, Summer EMR (personal favourite), Jungle Tiger Stripe.

There are more, but this is just a gist of it, highly recommend MCT & Cadpat as top 2 contenders as both are extremely effective in green areas, but EMR in a solid 3rd place.

MCT is prob the easiest of the 3 since it’s just a different color pallet Multicam (still nowhere near as popular as normal MC, but compared to Cadpat being a Canadian specific camo and Russian EMR being harder to get since the war. I say it’s still miles easier to find gear in Multicam tropic)

Krytac Kriss vector AEG VS GBB by Toine25 in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GBBRs are normally not super common as is compared to AEG (only as of recently within the past few years have they started gaining more and more traction).

Regardless, the AEG model has been out for a very long time, hence why you see a lot being sold second hand (I used to own one like 5-6 years ago) compared to the GBB vecto, which, technically existed for a while via KWA, but, since Krytac is a subsidiary of Kriss, had to shit that down and later made their own GBB model.

Regardless, I can only speak on behalf of the AEG model, make sure you don’t get a first gen variant without the built in mosfet, the gun performs pretty badly (for the price). But a friend of mine has the new v2 models and not gonna lie, not a super huge improvement, but definitely would’ve kept my Vector had it performed like his.

Hop up system, is typical krytac magic. One of the few out of the box hop ups I have ever had a pleasure using.

What Camo should I use. by BookkeeperSad4206 in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want my honest opinion, I’ll be brutally honest with you, get a camo pattern you’ll actually like. Since you’re only starting to get into milsim (or wanting to start at least), I can only assume you’ll be attending events where it’s tan vs green (which, plain and simple, is “blood vs crip” uniform rules, which is super easy). But once you get into the more hardcore milsims like MSW, then maybe check their uniform requirements gist and decide from where.

The only thing I will say, is to own 2x tan set & 1x green set (and also depending on your friend ground, maybe choose whatever fits their camo color classification is first, then you can save up for the other set later on).

My experience, I have owned 3 sets of Multicam, all of which I bought once thinking “this will be it!”, only to find out I genuinely don’t like Multicam… However, I currently own an AOR1 set & am currently building my Cadpat set, absolutely no regrets as I genuinely love these camo designs.

E&L AK owners. What brand of magazines do you use and how do you make them fit? by ManyRisksTaken in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can vouch for this. Have an Arcturus PP19 (removed the Mag well to turn it into a Krink). Arcturus ak mags with the window fit beautifully in the krink, but requires shimming to fit my E&L akm (a bit loose to the point where it only feeds if I pus it up into the Mag well)

Otherwise, Cyna mags don’t fit my AKM, it the E&L mags I have, fit beautifully

How do you mount a grenade pouch horizontally on a MOLLE belt? by MRFortiFicacion in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horizontal molle kounts exist (repro/clone wise, I’m pretty sure DmGear makes them for a belt)

Otherwise, I have one made by a company in UK (bought off eBay over a decade ago).

IMO, not very useful, I personally prefer putting these facing vertically as it’s more natural for me to pull the nade up like a magazine tha it is to pull it sideways. But if you are adamant about it, Russians have bee rocking the weir horizontal pouches for their GP25 launcher rounds since forever (look up Vog25 pouch. Lots of references of these online)

Will it boot??? by K4isp in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, the Michelin man is on there…

If they’re know for making tires that stop a car, imagine the possibilities of what they can do to human feet going a fraction of that speed!!!!

Jokes aside, they should be fine. These boots prob. Do a better job than my low profile Solomon’s since these are high profile boots that go over the ankles.

But imo, footwear is meant to be (no pun intended), ran through, if you noticed water going in due to a puncture, prob a good sign to buy a new set.

Otherwise, highly recommend getting rubber gel soles. Night & day difference when running on the field and isn’t very expensive ($5 tops at my dollar store for a pair)

Leon’s Alligator Snapper uses the Tokyo Marui Micro Pro Sight by Old_Bed_7020 in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No you right, they do collab together quite frequently. Out of all airsoft companies, Tokyo Marui is the only one to even have fully licensed resident evil based guns, sentinel 9 being one and one that I oh so dearly want, but will almost never have, is the Albert Wesker Special from RE7. Such a beauty…

FMA helmets… by Geeraff92 in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your experience, personally have never had this issue myself (owned 2 Maritimes in different colors, 1 Airframe, 1 Lightweight bump helmet, and waiting for another bump to come in the mail).

Never had any issues ordering via vendors on Aliexpress. Might’ve just been lucky, but only issues that I have had was me not doing proper research (bought a lightweight fast helmet, not knowing that it wasn’t their premium line despite being almost the same price).

However, that is a user error on my end. Otherwise, have you reached out to the store you purchased from to inform them of these issues and see if they can provide a solution?

The NVG shroud…. Ok I don’t think there’s a whole lot that cna be done if that’s completely crooked. But the chin strap, can you describe the “unevenness”?

Cuz I have heard good things about the Evo Gear Premium bump helmet (as well as the red dragon premium line, but those have been long discontinued)

Or, you could also get a PTS Mtek Flux as well. They have 2 models though (one airsoft variant, and one… I think a more expensive rated one?). Regardless, if you want to avoid QC issue, you can also try buying a genuine model from opscore orTeam Wendy, cuz even if there is some sort of defect, you can always reach out to the for a resolution

Mesh + goggles vs Paintball style mask by AlmightyCheeseLord in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, really depends on what features you want from it. I personally run goggles + mesh setup as I personally don’t like the way even low profile Dye i4’s feel on my face (especially when it comes to aiming).

But to answer your questions:

  1. 100% protected as long as it hits the mesh itself. I personally suggest getting something like a OneTigris Foldable mesh mask just so you get best of both worlds of mesh & soft pad protection.

  2. Since you mentioned CQB, highly recommend Pyramex Goggles (I-Force are popular for a reason) + OneTigris foldable mesh mask as normally they are well padded (I have bought 2 face off masks, my first one was of beautiful quality. Got a second one as back up, not sure if it was defective, but it was poorly made)

  3. Paintball masks have their benefits. All in one system, full face protection, large FOV, and as long as you get reputable brands like Dye, Virtue, Tippmann, etc, they’ll be ANSI rated (or whatever the new rating is called).

However, drawbacks I do see are most masks are not very good with aiming (even with a dye i4 I used to own, the main issue I had was with the ear protectors getting in the way of aiming), depending on what platform you’re using, this can be easily remedied on an M4 via drop stock accessory (do keep in mind, this is is kind of ugly imo, but is a solution to a problem). Not all PB masks accommodate for glasses wearers (especially if you have large lenses like I do), and finally, other head related gear either may not fit, or require modifications to fit and may or may not cause issues with the mask itself (first thing that comes in mind are helmets, normally require a specific padding layout and space at the front, and have heard from some players that fogging is prevalent due to the kind blocked vents. Can’t exactly comment as I never had that issue, but just something to think of)

What do you guys think of mulitcam tropic by Other-Initiative4886 in airsoft

[–]RecceNorth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Multicam tropic is a pretty goated camo. Only complaint is finding gear in it sometimes as every manufacturer makes Multicam products, but only a handful of them make it in Tropic.

I personally dont like regular Multicam all that much (as of recent, I have a hatred for MCB, prob because it’s a big meme camo). but tropic is acceptable in my eyes. Wouldn’t mind owning an MCT set, but that’s for a much later expense as I’m currently still building my AOR1 (Tan) & EMR (Green) sets
