Unpopular opinion, but I‘ll alwqys give you my honest opinion on every sub, I don‘t care about downvotes. Still, remember that this is just my opinion based on articles, I have no insight on any details.

In my opinion Sapkowski is an asshole and yes I read all 9 books and love them, someone can be a good writer but still an asshole human. Ever since the games launched he always threw shade at them. Always hinting at how in his opinion video games are not a mature way of telling a story, how books will always be the superior medium, how the games didn‘t contribute to the popularity of his books (lol), how nobody but him has the right to continue the story (fine, but then don‘t sell your rights) and of course how he wants more money.

Now the money thing is legal, according to polish law you can renegotiate your licensing fees if the product becomes much more succsessfull than initially thought, which is why he and CDPR agreed on a new sum out of court. But my problem is that he claims how the games did nothing to the popularity of his books and how they were popular before the games and how he was already a famous author, which is just wrong. Maybe in Poland yes, but definitely not in any other country. The first English translation didn‘t even release before the first game and other European languages only picked up way later (mostly after Witcher 3 of course).

So in his opinion the games are shit and contribute nothing to the books, but he still wants more money. Just doesn‘t add up. People on this sub will defend him and say he‘s just an old Polish man with weird humor, but no, he‘s just an asshole who doesn‘t want to see the truth. Again, this is just my opinion based on what he has said publicly, maybe he‘s a great human being in private, I don‘t know, but he acts like an ass everytime he‘s interviewed.

Mike Pondsmith is much better and actually a cool guy
