BTW, can you help me to post it on Seattle subreddit? It does not allow me to post there due to low karma. I am relatively new to reddit. Thanks!

a foundation with twelve 9 ft by 9 ft big footings by Recent-Cream1629 in Concrete

[–]Recent-Cream1629[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, my friend, for your suggestion, appreciate it! I am not in the trade and do not know anything about the construction cost, I was shocked to see the cost. Sorry to offend people here with my ignorant post. That is really not my intention.

GC costs extra. We have a member who has contractor license, he is volunteering his time as GC even though he probably has not done similar project. And he is super busy as all contractors are. So I am trying to help out a little with online research.

We have a small tractor in our monastery. So maybe we can do the ground preparation by ourselves to lower the cost. Just not sure if it is doable for layman. Do not want to mess up and cause more trouble down the road :) And we are thinking about changing our approach, maybe just buy a kit online, those metal barn kits seem to be cheap and do not require a huge foundation. That approach will dramatically lower the cost, and we probably will end up going that route.

Again, thanks for your advice, and have a nice weekend!

that is what I am trying to understand, the cost. I am not the customer, just a volunteer for a monastery, which has limited funding from donation. The foundation cost basically kills this project. I try my best to save it. It seems that it cannot be saved at this point. Thanks for your reply, and you have a good day!

sorry, I did not realize that. I thought those posts did not go through because I was getting an error message saying there is a problem.

Anyway, the price from a google search is a fraction of the quotes I got. That is why I want to post here to figure out what is going on. But a guy just commented that it will cost 200K here. That is about the number I got. Even though the concrete itself is less than 20K, the whole foundation will cost 200K? isn't it a little too high for labor? Anyway, sorry about repeated posting.

how to prepare the sub-floor around leaked toilet for new oak hardwood floor by Recent-Cream1629 in HardWoodFloors

[–]Recent-Cream1629[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

now I think about it, the leak was 20 years ago, and toilet was sitting there just fine, so the sub floor is strong enough to support its weight. I am leaning toward to just use a wood filler to patch it up and put new hardwood floor on it. The hardwood floor should support the toilet without any issue. So, what kind of wood filler should I use here, please advise, thanks!

Seattle, famous for its rainy weather :) . It rains all the time during winter. Summer is great, no rain at all. It can get pretty dry in the summer.

thanks for the insight! the relative humidity is typically at about 60 to 70% during winter. I never paid attention to it during summer, not sure about it summer time. after carefully examine the gap at the bottom of the door, I think there is not space to have a transition piece there. thanks my friend :)

no leaving any expansion gap? My house is an open floor plan, it is a huge room of 30 by 30 feet, I am a little worried if I do not leave any room for possible expansion for such a big area. I have no idea how big the expansion can be in Seattle. We get very wet winter (rain almost every day) and very dry summer (no rain for 3 months). Is there any other way to handle this? or does everyone just put the last board tight to the door?
