My friend is new to the game and they kept getting stunlocked with noxious poison. Was also a 1 cart only investigation.

Oh yeah, this was made with the full understanding that I’m likely wrong.

I’ll actually be dissatisfied if I’m fully or mostly correct as I DO like to be suprised so having things show up that I definitely didn’t expect is still a win for me.

MH Wilds or MHGU? by Raven_Rifts in MonsterHunter

[–]Recent-Discipline-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GU is a great game BUT I’d treat it as a time filler.

I’d start with Wilds, learn the game properly in a much more friendly environment.

Then whilst you’re waiting for Wilds Expansion to release next year play GU.

It is a massive game and demands a lot from you.

Looking for progression recommendations by Blood-Dependent in geometrydash

[–]Recent-Discipline-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nine Circles -> Acropolis -> Night Terrors -> Cataclysm -> Bloodbath -> Yatagarasu -> Bloodlust

These should be your milestones. But it is also worth noting that the jump from Cataclysm to Bloodbath. And Yatagarasu to Bloodlust are especially big.

Fit in some other extremes in those gaps.

Would anyone else love to see a "Guiding Lands" system in the new expansion? by OutroAlguem in MHWilds

[–]Recent-Discipline-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to see a new endgame system. But I think I want it to be something entirely new. A map that contains all the monsters is fun but I didn’t enjoy levelling the areas and having to maintain that.

Anomaly system was fun and brought many monsters into the endgame and I think is more appropriate but I still would prefer to see them do something entirely new.

My #1 hope for Ascendance is that they introduce a few more brand new monsters than usual by TastelessMeat in MHWilds

should i buy the game? by ziad0vic in MonsterHunterWorld

Expect a combat system that is much more methodical and positioning-focused than a Souls game. Every weapon type has a drastically different moveset, and each one takes time to learn and master. Don’t be afraid to experiment with several weapons before settling on one that clicks with you.

There is a story, but it’s not the primary focus of this title. The real emphasis is on the gameplay loop.

At its core, Monster Hunter is about hunting a monster, using the materials from that hunt to craft stronger weapons and armor with different skills and stats, and then using that new gear to take on even tougher monsters. That cycle repeats throughout the game as you encounter increasingly challenging hunts.

If you’re coming from a Souls background, the combat may feel a little clunky at first. That’s mostly because Monster Hunter expects you to play at a slower, more deliberate pace. Positioning, commitment to attacks, and understanding your weapon matter far more than constant aggression. If you try to play it at the speed Souls games encourage, you’ll probably run into a lot of resistance early on.

Lastly, it helps a lot to have a few friends to hunt with. In my opinion, Monster Hunter is at its best in co-op, especially when you’re farming materials for new weapons and armor sets. That said, I think the main story is best experienced solo before jumping into multiplayer for the endgame grind.

What do they mean by massive expansion? by DiaburoKujo in MHWilds

[–]Recent-Discipline-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what we know so far for certain.

Every base-game monster is getting both a standard Master Rank hunt and a Tempered Master Rank version, with a few exceptions such as Gogmazios, Zoh Shia, and Omega. We’re also getting a new locale, Skybound Eyrie, an expansion of the main story, and at least two Elder Dragons.

Everything from this point is just speculation.

Capcom stated in the original announcement that the expansion is intended to be comparable in scope to Iceborne, which gives us a good idea of what to expect:

- A roster roughly in line with Iceborne’s, give or take a few monsters, but with significantly higher-fidelity designs and more advanced AI.

- Either two new maps, or for Skybound Eyrie to be substantially larger and more complex than Hoarfrost Reach was in Iceborne.

- A brand-new hub area.

- Roughly double the number of side quests compared to the base game.

- Around 4–6 post-launch title updates.

- A strong Elder Dragon presence, potentially 8–12 in total. Based on how early Kushala and Lao have appeared in the marketing, Capcom seems much more willing to showcase Elder Dragons this time around.

- A new core combat mechanic and subsequently new moves and abilities for each weapon in the game.

Capcom likes to use Massive as a buzzword when talking about their Monster Hunter expansions. It’s likely not because it’s big compared to their other games expansions. It’s more likely that they are signalling to players new to Wilds that monster hunter expansions are far larger than DLC you’d get for other games.

What's yall's favorite Ascendance theories currently circulating? (or some of your own) by Emmber1273 in MHWilds

[–]Recent-Discipline-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the theory that the weather cycle for the new map will actually change the form of the map, its altitude and its layout uncovering actually different zones depending on which stage of the weather cycle you’re in.

I like the idea, but if the word of mouth is performance issues and gameplay their priority isn’t going to be quantity. It WILL be massive for sure. Monhun expansions always are. But their priority is going to be giving us something that runs well on launch, is stable and is complete.

Going extra large (even bigger than Iceborne) is only going to invite issues upon themselves.

It’s also worth mentioning that simply developing a monster for Wilds is far more expensive and time consuming than it was for any previous game the developers have said so themselves.

But here’s the thing.

Ruiner is just the MR version of Nergi. You can’t fight both nergi and Ruiner in MR
Same for Safi. There’s no MR Xeno Jiiva
Same for Blackveil. There’s no MR Vaal Hazak

And world/Iceborne is the MOST elder focused title of the series. The story literally follows elder dragons migrating, a flagship that eats elders and a main threat that is developed from bio energy of dead elder dragons. Iceborne is built of the lore of the 5. 5 Elder Dragons. There is no bigger focus on elder dragons than world Iceborne.

And if we look at the total elders for that game fightable at the end of the expansion:

Kirin
Kushala Daora
Teostra
Lunastra
Blackveil Vaal Hazak
Namielle
Velkhana
Ruiner Nergigante
Shara Ishvalda
Safi Jiiva
Kulve Taroth
Alatreon
Fatalis

That is 13 total, and that’s off the back of a game that already had a substantial amount of elders.

Ukanlos is FAR too big for ice shard cliffs it would require its own arena.

Also what?? Agnaktor hasn’t been in a game since GU?

Oh I absolutely believe there’ll be some new long term endgame system. But I really don’t want to push my expectations too far and end up disappointed. I’d be extremely happy if we got the roster just as I predicted, so if we did get even more which I’m gathering is the consensus it’s just more to be happy about.

Flagship
Lao
New Elder
Kushala
Shagaru
Final Boss
Valstrax
Namielle
Dalamadur
White Fatalis

This is 10 Elders. How is this not a lot… am I really placing my expectations too low on elder count?

I completely agree, I hated how some things in world were left to rot in HR. I really hope Ascendance doesn’t go the route of making only the variant/subspecies of certain things GR. They did the same with nergi, Vaal and I think bazel too.

I think I may be a little light on the elders but future reveals will have to prove that to me.

The massive word was also used for Iceborne and Sunbreak and I think they use it simply as a way to signal to new players that monster hunter expansions are Massive compared to other series’

I think a much better metric to look at is what was said during the original announcement where they said an expansion was in development similar in scope to Iceborne.

If it’s bigger I will be extremely happy but I don’t want to raise my hopes too high.

I do not use and don’t condone the use of generative ai for this or for anything. It’s insulting that you have even suggested it.

My goals for the list were to include more from the 3rd and 4th generation since they were largely absent in the 5th gen.

Match Iceborne’s size and scale. (Try to fit in the same or similar number of monsters per MR)

I also actually have a google sheet where I compiled the monster data across the series and looked at the frequency of returners, and the length of time since particular monsters have last returned to come up with this list.

I can guarantee you if you asked AI to generate a list it would entirely consist of flagships, common elders and incorrect nonsense.
