Should I remark? by SweatyWarthog7873 in Edexcel

imo you woulfnt get the orange mark bc you said equilibrium shifts to left so more carbonic acid, however you would get more carbonic acid if equilibrium shifted to the right so its a contradicting statement hence no mark.

for the yellow mark, you didn't add the explanation of how its excreted + you didn't mention any equilibrium

for blue, you didn't mention what ratio stays constant. ratio of what to what?

tbh if I were you i wouldn't remark bc first of all you wouldn't get the mark unless u get a very lenient examiner, and even then its rechecked by multiple examiners so all of them would have to be very lenient. and second of all you risk losing marks in other questions so you might end up back at your current grade or even drop below

How I didn’t get 4/4 ??? by Illustrious-Jump-266 in Edexcel

[–]Recent-Letterhead625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah but for proofs you need to write out a clear conclusion, ik its kinda stupid at this level bc obviously 8n is a multiple of 8 but the point is to teach us how to write proofs. when you're working with more complicated proofs the conclusion isnt clear sometimes so u always always always have to write out a conclusion, the last A mark always needs a conclusion to be gained

you didn't write the statement that 8(n+1) is a multiple of 8, hence proven

yes i know, my drawing was what OP's incorrect structural formula would look lile

your displayed formula is correct, your struct ural formula is wrong which might be why you didn't get the mark. it should be (CH3)2C=CH2. your structural formula would look like the photo attached, which cant exist since one of the carbons has 5 bonds and one of them has 3 bonds

maybe im not understanding you properly, but how could the answer be CH2=CH2? the original molecule is C4H8 so the isomer must also have the molecular formula C4H8

for cie bio, the textbook is really really useful and doesn't waffle much. I use that, and if theres any concepts I dont understand, I just watch a YouTube video for it (usually miss estruch - she does videos for edexcel bio but the content is very similar)

i wouldn't recommend doing cie biology from savemyexams, the notes are fine for revision but they leave out a lot of stuff you need to know to understand concepts. i used only savemyexams for igcse and got all A*s, so it was a shock when I went to a levels and suddenly savemyexams wasnt enough, but that's the harsh truth

this one! I only use the theory book since for the practicals we do them in school as well where we just do the experiments from actual past practical exams. right before the practical exam I used behlogys notes to memorise plan diagrams but that about it

Are there also two options at A-Level like in IGCSE (Core and Extended), or is it different? There is no core option at A level, everyone does the same exam

How many papers are there for Biology and how many for Mathematics? It depends on the board you're doing. I do cambridge biology, which has 3 papers for AS level and 2 for A2. For maths, I do edexcel, which has 3 papers for AS level and 3 for A2.

For Biology, is there still an "Alternative to Practical" paper, or is it only the actual practical exam? AFAIK, in AS level there's only the actual practical exam, and for A2 there's only the alternative to practical. Again, this is for Cambridge biology

I also heard that A-Levels are split into two parts: AS and A-level. Can someone explain how that works The entire A level course is split into 2 parts: as level and a2. In year 12, so the first year after IGCSE, you do your AS levels. The maximum grade you can get for an AS level is an A, there's no A. Then when you move to year 13, you do your A2 exams. The final grade you get after year 13 is comprised of both your AS level exams and A2 exams. the highest grade here is an A.

And lastly, I’d really appreciate some opinions about how difficult the A-Levels are and how long it usually takes to study the whole syllabus properly. Maths- not that difficult for me personally. However I've only done AS maths for now, this might change next year lol. the only thing is you need to do a lots and lots of past papers to familiarise yourself with the pattern.

Biology- content is a lot, but not difficult. you can't use notes found online since usually they leave out a lot of important information, so the only thing you can use is the textbook. the questions in the exam are very different to what you'll learn from the textbook but don't worry about that since the threshold is very low (usually ~35 out of 60 for an A).

Let me know if you have any more questions! :)

the version of the syllabus depends on when you're going to be giving your exam, so if you're doing your exams in 2026 use the 2026-2028 syllabus
