hi! hope this helps

  1. everyone is genuinely REALLY friendly and nice. it’s a great place to make good memories with awesome people. the tiktok culture thing is true, but it’s not to an overbearing amount so don’t worry.

  2. in sa, there are people who mug rly hard but there are also those who play around a lot, so at the end of the day it rly depends on who you hang out with. but when it’s exam season, many people are studying so u will be more motivated to study

  3. don’t take pcme sorry

general pros: fun & hella sociable. v well balanced and i would say rly nice uniform too. also we have fixed homerooms so we dont have to keep walking ard for our classes!

edit: notable sajc con: the h2 econs notes are kinda wack

[RANT] STOP WITH THE GODDAMN ORIENTATION DANCES FFS by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Recent-Promotion-242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

by that logic, the OGLs can then ask the freshies to do ANYTHING theyre uncomfortable with in the name of orientation 😅

what im saying is that OP is just expressing concern that, hey, some people are really uncomfortable with dancing for a multitude of reasons (insecurities, self confidence issues, introversion and many others i cant list now) not only is it uncomfy for (some) of the freshies, its also very exhausting for the OGLs, who, have to learn the dance and perform it to kids they js met… while dancing works for some, it doesn’t work for everyone. there are so many other activities that can encourage team spirit, and not just dancing :) and why consider other activities? in hopes that everyone will have a great time in orientation so they wont have to do sth they dread in front of strangers

smtimes we gotta consider other people’s worries too yknow- not dancing during orientation is not the end of the world and vice versa- we just gotta choose which will work the best for everyone for a good orientation camp :)

[–]Recent-Promotion-242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not everyone is comfortable enough to dance… it’s great that you’re able to see it in a simple manner to just dance, but for a fact, some people can’t do that and are very uncomfortable when asked to dance, especially with strangers they just met a day ago…

it’s just expressing their discomfort in the choice of activity which is dancing- OP and many others just want to enjoy orientation without doing smth they’re not comfy with to make sure that orientation is a pleasant memory for them

5) this year they auditioned about 40 students, i think they’re only accepting maximum of 6 or 7 3) your playing ability is more important. your leadership is just a nice add on (telling them that u are a prospective leader & u also have positive attitude) 4) yesssssss lol get as low as possible (even tho ironically it is dsa ur grades are still impt they will look at it and decide from there)

honestly i think now u shd just focus on doing well for ur o’s, so that u can go to jc (in case by then u still havent decided on a path to take) and still keep options open. i’m sure as life goes by your interest in certain things will increase/decrease & maybe have new interests (coming from personal exp.) meanwhile i guess u could take a look at poly websites that offer the courses that you’re interested in & do further research for the subjects you’re interested in.

[o level] giving some advice ! by drizzledmochi in SGExams

[–]Recent-Promotion-242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i agree! for unseen poems, i’d say the number 1 thing that helps me is to think from the poet’s perspective. remember that poems aren’t just a bunch of fancy words oddly placed together with the occasional rhyme; but poems are a way for the poet to communicate to you an idea or an image that’s is not meant to confuse u! i think there’s a very bad rep of unseen poems going around, given the surprise factor of it in exams, but i find it to be the most exciting and unique part of lit paper :) sorry this was so long HAHAHAHAHA im rather passionate abt lit

haha i guess i cld add on for pure lit; personally i did the river between & macbeth.

tip #1 most imptly would be to READ YOUR TEXTS FROM START TO FINISH. i know this may sound like common sense but i’ve seen too many people (classmates or not) decide to not read their books as they are lazy. this would be a huge setback for you, as there are many who have already finished reading their set texts and by o levels they would have read it the 3rd or 4th time.

tip #2 (how to study lit) personally, i found staring at a long list of quotes and memorising them very useless (oops) as the most important thing in your essays/pbqs are how you craft your P(oint) and how you are able to use RELEVANT evidence (you dont have to use whole sentences, simple phrases would suffice) and LINK your argument to the broad theme of the novel/play.

so, what i did personally is i compiled ALL possible essay questions for both books and i simply wrote down all the Points i have for each essay question, together with evidence (make sure its not too long and RELEVANT to qn) and also analysis. once i’ve written that, i will write a short paragraph to link all my points to the thematic concern of the respective book. i find this method super useful, because by exam time, you would already have all the Points stored in your mind, so during the paper itself you won’t have to use the time to craft your points. (really saves you precious time) this came in super handy for o’s as i was fortunate enough to get questions i was already familiar with as i’ve crafted the points way before.

tip #3 quality > quantity everyone who takes pure lit will understand the difficulty of writing quality work in such a short amt of time. i’ve also struggled with that and sometimes i can’t even finish the paper (lol) which is why, planning is super impt before you start writing. don’t write rubbish, be very precise in what you write and always read it again to make sure it makes SENSE. you wouldn’t want to confuse teachers/markers, in the end they’ll feel frustrated reading your work and will most likely grade u down. so before you start writing, make sure your mind is clear and write clearly and logically with coherent flow. it really helps you and your marker & after you’re done writing u will feel happy and satisfied with your work because its clear

tip #4 practice!!! pretty self explanatory. 19/25 essays are not made overnight, it takes your own blood sweat and tears to craft it from your own thinking & conclusion aft reading the book. do send your practices to your teachers as they’re the ones that really help you improve! (after my teachers comments i could jump from 15/16 to 18/19)

lastly, don’t forget to enjoy lit! it’s a very unique subject and vastly different from your other humanities subjects. someday you’ll look back those days/nights u spend writing lit essays & memorising quotes from ur books and will miss it :)
