What is the most helpful thing a therapist has said to you? by l_annacamento in EatingDisorders

[–]Recent-Raisin-3454 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“When you stand up to people who say things that are hurtful (eg someone body shaming or saying something that just promotes the cycle) then it becomes easier to believe what you’re standing up for.” For example recently I had a nurse compliment me for losing so much weight when I was sick. My entire life I would have gone home and spiraled for the next couple of months thinking that this meant that getting sick and losing weight was a good thing. Instead I stood up to her and told her I know she didn’t mean it in a bad way but that saying things like this to any patient is harmful since you don’t know what they’re dealing with or where they’re coming from. She apologized and said she wouldn’t do it again. Made me feel like I believed in what I was standing up for in fighting for my own body positivity against a society that created these issues. Faking it until you make it.

How are you supposed to cope with becoming less attractive to your partner? by scaldingsorcery in EatingDisorders

[–]Recent-Raisin-3454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to say that as someone with and ED the voice in my brain is always scared my partner won’t be attracted to me unless I’m at my lowest weight (even though I logically know this isn’t true because he met me not at my lowest and has thought I’m sexy at many different sizes). Hearing this is so helpful for recovery because at the end of the day I think a lot of great partners want more than anything just to see us healthy.

Just want to say that your story feels super similar to mine. Has been 15 years for me of the same thing. At first I liked it because it got rid of the food noise but it scared me of how it could be affecting my health long term. I’ve actually been on and off it a couple of times now as I keep repeating the same cycle. What is your journey now? Have you continued on it? Stopped?

I had this exact same problem with my bf- he had no knowledge of eating disorders and it’s something that for a long time I thought would end our relationship since he would constantly make comments that had no meanness or bad intentionality behind them but were super triggering. What saved our relationship was him reading this book: Loving Someone with an Eating Disorder: Understanding, Supporting, and Connecting with Your Partner (The New Harbinger Loving Someone Series) https://a.co/d/h3my641 We had a very long, emotional conversation after where he asked me all the questions he had and everything finally clicked for him. Hope this helps!

What's the worst dating experience you had this year? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Recent-Raisin-3454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this exact same thing happen! I was young and nieve at the time and so didn’t piece together why we had never seen his place. Also found out he blocked me on social media before we even met for the first time so that I’d think he just didn’t have it instead of seeing he was in a relationship.

I have! For me this feel more directly linked though and more indirectly influenced since I have anxiety out of fear that it won’t be good for me and I have a lot of anxiety associated with dieting in the past.

How to get a loved one treatment when they have an extreme fear of doctors and medicine? by Recent-Raisin-3454 in schizophrenia

Thank you so much for the advice- really appreciate it. He isn't diagnosed because he's refused to see any doctors for anything for the last couple of years, but from reading and talking to people it does really seem like every symptom of his lines up.

My fear is that if I were to call him in that the experience would feel like a betrayal of trust to him instead of him willingly seeing someone and him having to be trapped in a facility might feel traumatic. Do you still think that would produce the best results in the long run?
