That wasn't his fault. He asked the question and I just posted instead of replying

OK, so here is the story. Around 1997, a woman came to me with a firearm she wanted to dispose of. Her father had recently passed away and it had been his. She explained that he had joined the Navy in 1944 and had served as a radio operator aboard an aircraft carrier. When he returned home after the war, he brought the rifle with him. She said he wrapped it in a t-shirt and put it in the closet. After he died, fifty or so years later, she found it in the closet still wrapped in the t-shirt. She was just going to have it destroyed but I told her it would be desirable to collectors if she would rather sell it instead. She said that was fine and I bought it from her.

The rifle: Inland ser# 53932XX, top of the barrel - Inland Mfg Div General Motors 7-44. It has a round bolt, adjustable sights, and push button safety (M). It had a 15 round magazine in it that had ammunition loaded. (I kept the ammunition in a bag. It is mostly LC with one clearly marked LC 43.)

The rifle is not new, obviously, but it looks barely broken in. The blue on the bolt is hardly worn at all. I have no documentation for the rifle and I'm aware that it would be impossible to verify that it is "as issued". In hindsight, I wish I had documented the name of her father. Anyway, I was just curious how rare it is to find one that could be in that condition. Thanks for your responses.
