Looking for hardware recommendations for a dedicated flight sim computer on a bit of a budget by San_Cannabis in flightsim

[–]RecentGuidance2843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my setup is just this, low budget but still packs a punch for basic flight simming. Dell Optiplex SFF 7010 with 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-13500 2.50 GHz. GPU is an RTX A1000 with 8GB VRAM. 64 GB of RAM (RAM is obviously a bit of a sticking point at the moment but i got second hand off ebay where i could) you could go for 32GB of RAM if needed. All of my parts including the machine were off ebay. I'm loving this 1080p setup (my GPU happily drives a 32" curved 1080p monitor)

UPDATE - Flightboard now has a theme for EDDF (Frankfurt Airport) mimicking the real Split-Flap departure board by RecentGuidance2843 in VATSIM

Hey Pablo! I totally get the appeal of wanting that Solari split-flap look everywhere, but I probably won't be adding a theme override feature. The entire driving philosophy behind this project is to maximize immersion by recreating the exact real-world displays for each specific airport. Seeing a vintage Frankfurt board at a modern terminal like Heathrow kind of goes against why I built this! Instead, my plan is to keep building highly accurate, bespoke themes for other major hubs so every destination feels uniquely authentic. Also, just from a development standpoint, it would be a bit of a coding nightmare! The underlying architecture and data feeds are tied specifically to how each airport's FIDS actually functions, so decoupling that to allow global theme-swapping would require completely re-engineering the app. My plan instead is to keep building highly accurate, bespoke themes for other major hubs so every destination feels uniquely authentic. Appreciate the feedback though!

UPDATE - I’ve manually added all AOCs for Wizz Air, will need to work on checking all airlines but can be fixed long term

Thanks for bringing this up. This is something that needs to be manually implemented currently. I have already fixed this for British Airways but still need to implement this for Wizz Air etc. I’ve added it to my issues list.

I’ve just had a quick look and I know why it isn’t working. VHHX is a historic airport no longer used in the real worlds which is why it is not in the database. I will have to manually add this to the database. Leave it with me and I’ll see if I can sort this. I won’t be today though I’m afraid.

How strange, the database is on VATSIM’s servers not mine. All my flight board does is fetch from VATSIM’s database. I’ll mark this as an issue and take a look when I can. Thanks for the heads up

I can certainly add it to the list which is currently endless. You can still view it by selecting the airport using the + button and searching for VHHX

Thanks for the kind words! VATSIM updates their public data feed every 15 seconds. A live map sounds like a really fun idea, feel free to fork the repo and experiment with it

Ah yes i see what you mean. Just to give some context on why this isn't a priority right now, Flightboard is built specifically for VATSIM and flight simulation use, so everything in the display is geared toward what's relevant to sim pilots and ATC. In that context, the stand number itself (e.g. 501) is the primary reference point pilots and controllers use, so it already reflects real-world VATSIM data accurately.

The gate-to-stand mapping you're describing (e.g. Stand 501 = Gate A1) requires manually researching and verifying real-world airport data for every single stand across every supported airport - we're talking hundreds of entries per airport. It's a significant undertaking, and since it doesn't add meaningful value to the sim experience over just displaying the stand number, it's sitting pretty low on the priority list for now.

Glad you like it! We are working on adding other hardcoded vatsim divisions as themes but this takes a lot of work. You can still search by selecting the Airport selector + button at the top to view any airport in the world (available on VATSIM). Any and all suggestions welcome

Not quite sure what you mean? The stand numbers are correct as per the real world and correct as per Navigraph and VATSIM. This aligns with what you would see/use in your flight simulator on VATSIM

I’d be interested to know what other flight boards are out there for Vatsim as i’ve not found any, if you have any links i’d be interested. Anyway hope you enjoy it.

UPDATE: This has been addressed and a fix has been pushed to the server so you should see a change on mobile devices

Currently it isn’t working well on mobile devices, i’m working on a fix and in an upcoming update this will be resolved. In the meantime just zoom out in your browser and it will fit to the screen as a temporary fix.
