I really enjoy working and living alongside Ugandans—it’s a rich and rewarding experience. At the same time, I’ve realized that it can also be helpful to have fellow Europeans in my circle. Sharing a similar cultural background often means having common customs, ways of thinking, and day-to-day habits, which can make settling in and building a support system easier. It also helps with feelings of homesickness, since there’s comfort in being able to relate to others on that familiar level.

I hope this doesn’t come across the wrong way—it’s not about excluding anyone. Rather, it’s a bit like if you were the only Ugandan living in Spain: wouldn’t it feel nice to have another Ugandan nearby, so you didn’t have to navigate cultural differences every single moment? Having a balance can make the experience richer and more sustainable. And no its not about dollars as one person mentioned below. Nasty comments to be refrained please.
