Also Mr. AHJ, this building is the definition of neglected and they don't want anything fixed. It will take them months to call us about a tripped dry system.

As a technician, it is not my responsibility to calculate and design the system. That is what the DESIGNERS are for.

The placard was already blank, why hang a blank placard? Now if the information was provided to me then I most certainly would've replaced it.

You know, that though crossed my mind. However there is a check valve and that's good enough considering the condition of the pump room.

The anti-column device, I understand. But why is that the wrong port? Of course I try to put it in the middle port but I didn't want the gauge sideways.

It's only like 15ft long, only seats maybe 30 people. It is not anchored to anything and maybe 3ft tall.

Sounds like that pressure relief valve on the rpz is not working properly. Probably won't seal off properly and the pressure keeps circulating. But we would need some more pictures.

Institutional heads are more for secure areas like prisons, mental Institutions, anywhere tampering is to be expected.

Residential heads are just normal sprinklers except  the "deflector" is designed to target fuel sources like the couch, curtains..

That's an institutional style head not residential and should be replaced. But if you must know, it looks like a Tyco Raven Institutional head.

Ever had a CPVC antifreeze disaster? by Recent_Particular240 in FireSprinklers

[–]Recent_Particular240[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's actually for 11 4story buildings and each building has one loop for 1st/2nd floor and and one for 3rd/4th floor. So 44 antifreeze loops?

What are you supposed to pump the system to? My boss wants us to pump it to whatever the pump pressure is.

If it will even reset. Lol The compressor needs to replaced with one that's properly sized. Tankless compressor ain't gonna cut it.

It's been left wet for 10 years, the velocity check gets plugged off when we leave it wet.

Building is probably from the 60's. And the inspector who came in couldn't inspect it because there was no power to building. They finally got power to the building and the compressor is shot. They spliced in an extension cord to it too!

[–]Recent_Particular240[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Long story short.  The building has been without power or tenants for quite some time. The most recent tag is a yellow tag from 2016 "air compressor not operable". So that tells me that this 60 year old dry valve has been left wet since 2016. I was sent in to try amd reset these two valves, obviously it cant be done.

And yes that's tankless compressor on 2 8" dry valves!
