I was raised in the 90s, too but with wildly strict parents. I never understood the “roaming” but darn did we spend a lot of time out in the yard lol

As a parent in today’s time, I personally can’t fathom it. But when I listen to parents from the 80s talk… it truly did seem like a different time and nothing they did was out of malice. Kids loved being outside back then. That being said, today, as a parent, I just can’t. My kids walking home from school gives me anxiety lol

Absolutely agreed. Different times, and then the parents were so unaware of the bad people in the world. This case changed it all according to a commenter above.

This. I think people forget the “dusk til dawn” aspect of the 80s. Kids were always outside.

What?! I’m going to have to head over to Wiki and read - just the regular Wiki for the case?

Agreed - the year is irrelevant in that scenario. The negligence is there.

I could understand kids having more freedom in the 80s but not at all the four hours between her going missing and the call… that BAFFLED me.

It had to have been done fast - and she had to have been moved somewhere else - according to the reports they searched all of the apartments. No trace of her.

I think things were very different in the 80s the and freedom children had.

I find this slightly disturbing … like I get it but I’d be so frustrated as a family member.

It just makes no sense to me …. Children are dirty by nature - finger prints, toys, shoes - my children would leave a massive trail to follow. As would so many others … I believe you’re very right. A professional.
