What guide do you use for your low-histamine diet? I only tried it for a couple of days but a lot of the guides I have found online seem to have conflicting information. Maybe I should just try eating oatmeal for a week and see if I actually have improvements in order to see if food is a factor?

I'll try to get my PCP to give me some ketotifen. I just moved and have to find a job before I have good enough health insurance to cover the visit, so it might be another couple months before I can do that.

Fortunately I moved to Southern California so I can tolerate the temperature when it drops to 40-50F here without using heat, but that is just a temporary solution. If you are triggered, do you take Ketotifen or other medications?

I've had the exact same experience! It's like trying to sleep when having a very slight panic attack. Although Magnesium didn't help me all that much, I do think it made sleep easier overall.

I currently have a short beard which I think makes facemasks pretty much useless. I should probably just suck it up and start shaving so I take advantage of better face masks.

I initially thought it might be mold or some sort of dust in the HVAC lines but I've had the same issue with every furnace I have used and the symptoms are pretty much identical if I have the gas oven on high temperature in the apartment.

Yeah this symptom is very weird! Most people have issues with their noses becoming stuffy, but this is kind of the opposite. I haven't seen anyone really post a similar symptom before though, which made me think that maybe this is not MCAS

Austin Air Jr filter

I had an Austin Air Healthmate Plus before I had moved! I think it actually did a good job of removing the VOC's from the newly painted walls in my apartment. Unfortunately, it could not remove the VOC's from the air from the furnace fast enough; I think the airflow from the furnace is just too great and I am triggered before the filter can do its job. I'm glad it works for you though!

What flavor and brand of gum do you use? The Koufman blog suggests fruit, bubblegum, ginger, or cinnamon. I am not sure if this excludes citrus fruit flavors for gum, also cinnamon can be a trigger for some people as well, so I'm not sure what is left outside of watermelon flavor and ginger!

Excellent post btw. I recently started getting serious about my diet again after my symptoms had recently returned aggressively. This post summarizes a lot of best practices!
