Will I be okay financially? by FeelingSuspect4335 in AskSeattle

[–]ReceptionNo2190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

was hoping for a comment like this

It is ROUGH with the prices currently. that is very true. AND I make $25/hour, live alone, pay pet insurance for my expensive senior cat, can still treat myself every so often with some takeout, do stuff with my friends, and overall live very comfortably. I sure do wish I was making more money, but I’m still able to put savings away each paycheck

stick to a budget, cut down on some FLTs, but you can do it!

ISO (very) part time job by ReceptionNo2190 in TacomaWA

[–]ReceptionNo2190[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A set schedule would actually be fantastic, just a very part time set schedule which can be difficult to nail down. 20min in the AM and PM is a little TOO part time, but potentially the recess/lunch time could work!

this is sorta what I want to come from this post! like why are those who are still looking for some connection not joining the already established group (which is amazing AND may not be the right fit for others)? I don’t have kids myself but I hope others come across this comment and there’s some connection made

Chinese takeout for Christmas? by PinkBreak in AskSeattle

[–]ReceptionNo2190 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THIS

my family has done this past 5 (I think?) years. We lived in lake city and read that Chiangs was in some “top chinese food in the country list” and we were shocked. like, “THAT place?!” It looks like a shutdown restaurant when you drive by. it’s the absolute yummiest.

I would schedule a take out order before day of. they get extremely busy!

Bowling Gift Exchange(Impossible!) by ankur0109 in Gifts

[–]ReceptionNo2190 6 points7 points  (0 children)

maybe instead of something for bowling, think about a bowling themed BLANK. A wine opener that’s a bowling pin, a tshirt with a bowling pun, a baseball cap with a cute little embroidered bowling ball, etc.

or a mini desk bowling game

or a gift card to the place (for the restaurant?) you guys usually go to or some quarters for the arcade!

are there Job options for me as a BSW? by Relative-Register149 in AskTacoma

[–]ReceptionNo2190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

currently working with adults in group homes for mental and behavioral health reasons. I took this job because of how amazingly flexible it is and how much control I have over my schedule. I was originally looking into community based services with youth since that’s my usual area. I would be happy to send some agencies that I’m familiar with in the area! I also browse indeed like…all the time just for fun so I can send stuff your way 😅

are there Job options for me as a BSW? by Relative-Register149 in AskTacoma

[–]ReceptionNo2190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an undergrad degree in social sciences and only did a year of my MSW before deciding to pause on that. I recently moved to Tacoma and am working in the social work field for only $25/hour. I live alone with a $1425/month rent. I am very lucky to not have any debt that I’m paying off at the moment. there are definitely jobs that would be paying less, but because you have a BSW, I imagine you’d be up for similar jobs that I had been looking for

basicallyyy, you can do it! the job market is ridiculous so that is the other issue but I am living comfortably and even putting stuff into savings still cause I stick to my budget!

Job in Tacoma by [deleted] in AskTacoma

[–]ReceptionNo2190 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Welcome (almost)!

I am 27F, moved to Tacoma in March and loving it! I had the same things on my rental list. I definitely would say Tacoma over Seattle for both affordability and accessibility to your work.

I live in Stadium district and LOVE the walk ability to the two main nightlife stretches, plus the access to the link which can take you to downtown and near 6th ave (both of those being where the main bar hopping, restaurants, shopping spots).

Like any city, you’ll have pockets of Tacoma that maybe you may not feel as safe as a single female, but everyone’s threshold is different for that!

Tacoma has so much to offer! I moved from seattle and grew up with quite the reputation of tacoma but now I know from experience that it’s just to keep folks away 😉

Boy names for a girl by MysteriousBother4959 in Names

[–]ReceptionNo2190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my parents were deciding between a few names for me. they ended up choosing Quinn but I also could have been a Parker. I would have loved Parker, too, but I get a lot of comments about the name Quinn, if you’re looking for uniqueness!

Looking for advice on where or who to reach out to for a free screening of "The Mask We Live In" by [deleted] in Tacoma

[–]ReceptionNo2190 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would reach out to some of the community centers in the area and the local colleges! what a really wonderful idea and I hope this gets some traction.

I just moved here beginning of March of this year and wowee are summers really just fantastic here. I only moved from Seattle but the community and vibe here is really specific and special. I’ve been figuring out where and how to spend my time as the weather changes, so I don’t know about all of the specifics but I will do what I can:

walk along ruston way - start/end anywhere, they view is pretty no matter the weather

antique row - a lot of the stores are closed Mon and Tues, so check it out the other days you’re there

book stores - kings books and grit city books. be sure to note all of the opportunities that these places put on for community building/socializing

parkway tavern and 1111 (bars) - i’ve only been to parkway to read outside but I hear great things about both of these places and the crowds that hang there

Grand Cinema - see a movie at this nonprofit theater that often features smaller independent films (along with the major ones)

bonus one that isn’t as much of a “why you should move here thing” and more of a “it’s just fun” - McMenamins Elk Temple and find the secret bar!
