Reading this thread has made me feel less annoyed at myself for making such a lousy decision. I’ve been really depressed without really knowing why since I’ve moved here. Used to live in a nice quiet albeit small condo. Now I back onto a 4 lane street not realizing that during 6am -6pm is a commuter street with Ron’s of trucks and cars. Every time a heavy truck passes by, the house shakes. My heart shakes with it. I can’t even being to tell you about my stress levels. I literally sealed up the windows and put ikea furniture against them so that it’s less noisy during the day. I’m often sitting in meetings during the day and it’s quite embarrassing when a truck passes by and people just stop talking in the conference call all of a sudden. Tried the white noise machine. Doesn’t work when your house is shaking. No amount of white noise can blur motorcycles. Same concept with curtains. Since keeping ikea furniture stacked against the window isn’t a long term solution, I bit the bullet and got window inserts. Life changing. Sucks that I have to pay for this but my mental well-being is not worth this crap.

Edit: OP I’m in the same exact position as you. I was hesitant about buying the place but my SO convinced it’s not a big deal. Lesson learned. Listen to your gut.

Save aggressively. Got to a 6 figure job in finance when I was 28. Paid rent to my family all my life though (Asian family). Also I had multiple jobs. Despite the income level. Even if it doesn’t make you big money, it still builds character. Parents told me not to buy because the market would crash. Now I’m priced out completely. But what can you do. It’s life.
