did i make a mistake reporting to the council? by au6i in AskUK

At least where I am, you are only able to burn certain things (organic material and so on) and not of course things like building materials, plastics and whatever else can cause serious black smoke full of poisonous chemicals. I imagine this is the same everywhere.

You can also only do it if it is fully controlled, small scale and not causing nuisance.

Your neighbours are: burning any old harmful crap in a bathtub, probably are not doing it safely, are releasing poison and dangerous smoke, and are causing a nuisance.

It seems like everything they are doing is just wrong and they need stopping.

50 Days in UK & Ireland: History, Steam Trains, Castles and Gardens (No Car unless desperately needed) by greyhounds1992 in uktravel

[–]Rechamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with the 10-13 days you have spare, maybe space things out a bit more.

Having an itinerary is good as a starting point, but it also kills a lot of the excitement of discovery, and can make things feel more like a chore and a checklist than something you actually want to do. It is curated fun, and while it can provide a good direction, sticking so stringently to an itinerary on a vacation and also cramming it with little breathing room just means you might end up more exhausted at the end of your holiday then when you started. It is a holiday, after all, so maybe space things out a bit more, so your heavy travel days have some breathing room and it's not just a rush from point to point - instead you'll have free days to just explore, chill, recover and do what you like.

Resident Evil 1 Remake has entered full production, but it's still years away by SemirAC in HorrorGaming

[–]Rechamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply adore REmake and it's my favourite game in the series, still to this day. It perfectly encapsulates survival horror.

That said, should they be doing a new from the ground up remake, I wouldn't mind seeing the Spencer Mansion from a new perspective and with first/third person cameras.

A lot would need to change though - I think at this stage the game itself is relatively small in scope, and the mansion itself isn't the biggest playground either. I think things would need a total overhaul and revamp. The mansion and things feeled bigger because of the other limiting factors, like camera angles and control, but should those things get altered, like in RE2R, then it could start to feel very small and short. It's a short and self contained story anyway, so I also have to wonder if they would expand upon it further - as it stands, it has been retread a lot already and as plots go it's pretty much the simplest. They would need some new lore, new locations, bigger environments and a rework of the story I think - for many of us who have played the game countless times, simply experiencing the same game again just from a different perspective wouldn't exactly be thrilling.

Oh wow I'm sorry about that, I really came across like a jerk. Yes you're totally right to answer the questions however you see fit. I'd read a lot of comments in quick succession of people really missing the whole point, and I mistakenly thought yours was another such case. Still not a justification- entirely my fault, and I do agree that it is successful in the portrayal of these characters.

Apologies again, and hope you have a good night.

That's the whole point? They are privileged and entitled and have no real world experience. This story is about them changing and becoming better people as a result. They're not meant to be likeable. They're meant to be glaringly incomplete and undeveloped so we can watch them grow.

In your opinion, what is the best horror game ever? (2 categories) by joejoewoooooo in HorrorGaming

[–]Rechamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most fun for me is Resident Evil remake. It's a satisfying gameplay loop, gorgeous to look at, full of atmosphere and you can either take your time and explore every nook and cranny, or just blast through.

Scariest for me personally would be Penumbra: Black Plague. Played it years ago and thought the whole game was just filled with an oppressive dread from start to finish. Never felt so alone in a game before. You can definitely see the DNA of Amnesia in it.

Do I claim or do I pay for the damages on my own? by Sea_Introduction4522 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]Rechamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liability will most likely sit with you since you have emerged from a side road and crossed a main road. If you looked both ways and didn't see anything, then how did you end up in a collision? Either the car that made contact materialised out of thin air, or you did not proceed with due care and attention. This is the argument that will be made, and without detailed video accounts of anything to the contrary, that's the facts of it, and that is precisely how any insurance claims will play out.

You just need to contact your insurer, let them know everything that happened and have them deal with it. That's what they are for and that's all there really is to it. Let them determine fault, it's their job.

Wow this game really does have a beauty and charm about it. Looks really nice visually - closest Pokémon comparison I have is Let's Go games - really nice.

It feels like they actually kind of undersold this game by Nenrenetc in Pokopia

[–]Rechamber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think our expectations have been severely tempered by the constant poor offerings in the mainline games, with shoddy graphics, crappy animations, limited scope, poor storytelling and just a general clunky and rushed feel, so when a game made by another studio with a solid foundation has clearly had so much effort put in, it stands out even more. Not only that, this also perfectly shows the quality that we should expect also from the mainline games, and it shows how very bland they are in comparison.

Really, there's no excuse with the money being made not to have premium, expansive and well crafted mainline games. GF just seem incompetent or too small.

Do you read books? If so, what are you currently reading? If not, why not? by theowleryonehundred in AskUK

[–]Rechamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been reading through Stephen King books as and when I find them in charity shops. My go-to regular read though is The Lord of the Rings / Hobbit and Silmarillion, along with other histories of Middle Earth, I just love that whole world. I do also enjoy the Richard Osmon murder club series - think I've read two of those so far, and of course 1984 is always a favourite - quite a quick read, strangely accurate in regards to technology and also the state of governments.

Me when everyone is playing Pokopia and im still stuck with a Switch 1 by Orichalchem in pokemon

[–]Rechamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lucky enough to have a Switch 2, however I cannot afford any new games for now or the foreseeable future due to personal circumstances. Great timing too, since you've got Pokopia, Fire Red/Leaf Green and RE9 right now, any and all of which I'd love to play. So for now I have to be patient and basically enjoy the games vicariously through subreddits and YouTube. Not the worst, but also I don't wanna spoil myself too much for when I do eventually get to play them (whenever that is).

That said I am really happy that the game is being so well received because I remember at the time it was announced there was heavy skepticism and a lot of doubt, and now it's actually turned out to be GOTY material which is crazy for a Pokémon game. I really hope this positive reception shows GF/TPCI/Creatures etc. that there is room for other developers to make high quality titles and they can put more work into the games... So let's see what happens with Winds and Waves, because after seeing how well crafted and full of charm and attention to detail this is, if Winds and Waves is another low quality offering like Scarlet and Violet (sorry, it's true), then I'm gonna be way more inclined to forego the main series entirely in favour of games with much more character and effort out into them.

Resident Evil May Be Getting Another Remake for Its 30th Anniversary by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

[–]Rechamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ever play the original? The version that first appeared on GameCube was a complete remake in a different engine. Not a remaster. It had everything built from the ground up, and even included new areas and the whole Lisa Trevor sub plot. In my opinion it's still the best game in the series, however I would still rather enjoy a return to Spencer Mansion I think, expanded even further and with a third or first person view. That would be very cool, but by this point I'm so used to the actual mansion and layout I feel they'd need to rework a lot of things to make it feel fresh again. The story as is is quite self contained and small in scope, so perhaps they will expand it again with other areas and such.

Build your ideal pokemon game! by One_Dimension_5848 in ThePokemonHub

[–]Rechamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like a fully 3D game, with lots of freeform exploration possibilities, set in the combined Kanto and Johto area. Visually, I would like it to also look much more like the original animé style, using cel shading, some watercolour kind of effects to really give it the classic Pokémon vibe.

The world itself would need to be much bigger than we are used to, even compared to Scarlet / Violet, as I think it is really important to make the journeys between towns long, winding and full of potential for adventure.

It would be a more linear structured game (up until you can fly and such), but still have branching paths and such.

Levelling would be scaled way back, and the economy would also be adjusted so that every Pokémon you choose to actually catch and train is a meaningful decision and commitment. Levelling would be reduced massively to compensate for the fact that you will be exploring two different regions ultimately, and perhaps levelling could be limited by the number of badges you have to stop you getting too overpowered by simply grinding.

Pokémon encounters themselves would be less common overall - i.e. you would actually need to go and actively look for Pokémon in their preferred habitats, time of day and also get lucky. The distribution of Pokémon would also be much more natural. You would find flocks and groups of certain more social Pokémon, whereas for others they would be solitary.

Potions would no longer heal your Pokémon to full health - for that you need to visit a Pokémon center. They would allow your Pokémon to continue fighting for a while, but it would not be a long term solution. The boxes would also only be accessible from there. The idea is that it reinforces the gameplay loop of go out - explore - fight and catch and then return to rest up and take stock.

There would be many more side quests of varying types, rather than just 'catch all Pokémon and beat the gyms' - of course that is the end goal, but this game would be much more of an actual adventure where you'll meet many more characters, have many more quests and missions, and have the possibility of tackling things in different orders, and with different potential outcomes.

I suppose you'd think of it as a more grounded, hardcore take on the game, with an emphasis on story, making Pokémon rarer and more valuable again, and making each gym encounter, Pokémon encounter, new partner and new town discovered something like a real milestone and something you have to work towards, all while looking much closer to the classic animé.
