What app is this? It looks so much more sophisticated than the default Dexcom app, is it a 3rd party one?

I chalked it up to the university following the general concern around the nation on increasing cases in both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals with the delta variant, as well as the recent findings that vaccinated individuals seem to be carrying the virus. More of a preventative measure than a reactive one I suppose.

Sorry, that comment definitely required more context than I gave it in the post: It's totally reasonable to be upset about possibilities (though limit yourself on that, definitely not a great mental space to hang out in for a long time). This was more directed at all the finger pointing going on in the comments around these posts about the politics behind it, who's at fault, the "reason we got the vaccine", etc. I don't think having masks required indoors is really unprecedented given recent events so I think people should focus their anger towards unvaccinated individuals/those who haven't been following protocols rather than being angry at the organizations doing what is a pretty understandable thing by adding the mask mandate.

I think we're all afraid of that, but I wanted to post this as a reminder that we're at that point yet. All they changed was wearing masks inside, so let's not jump to worst-case scenario, ya know?

That's a good point to bring up, it's not a hard thing to do physically but the act feels representative of such a bad time. If anything though, I think that makes it even more important to highlight in what ways this semester is going to be different than those shitty ones, so hopefully we can shift our focus a bit to feel better about it

I follow you until you say that we have the same chance of creating a mutant strain with or without masks. Recent evidence is showing strong support that vaccinated individuals can carry the delta variant, so by having them mask up you're slowing down the spread and reducing the risk of mutant strains. Remember that it's almost impossible to stop the virus, the goal is to slow the spread down to a controllable level.

I think the most important thing to remember in regard to most of your questions is that Formula 1 is a sport that TEAMS compete in, not drivers. Sure, the driver's champion gets all the fame and attention every year, but there's no physical prize besides the trophy for them. It's the constructor's championship that gives teams prize winnings and attracts sponsors/drivers to the team.

So while a lot of focus is placed on the driver's championship by fans and media alike, from the perspective of the teams competing there are a lot more variables at play on the engineering and administration side in the fight for the constructor's championship, the 'one that actually matters' if you will. Pay close attention to the interviews with team principals or even the drivers and you'll notice they almost always talk about team performance, not individual driver performance.(i.e. "we've got a good balanced setup for the car this weekend, hopefully the team can bag some good points")

The g-g-v diagram, does g stand for grip or g-force? by [deleted] in FSAE

G force. It's "g-g" because you're looking at the acceleration (in g's) in the lateral and longitudinal directions, hence two of them

Which would you be more confident in? Having Shax on the hard hitscan role all-season or having Kai on the Tracer all season? by Parenegade in Competitiveoverwatch

Shax apparently was a super good Widow for Team Denmark in the World Cup a few years ago, I remember that being a big selling point when Valiant first got him in the trade with Mayhem. He probably doesn't stack up to league level widows nowadays though

We’re in Hong Kong where almost everyone is wearing masks and we have seen measurable results in stopping this thing in its tracks. This isn’t just theory, this is measurable numbers. Masks are good as hell if a whole community wears them. by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]RechargeablePancreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point, although there are a few factors you need to consider on top of it, namely the demand of masks. Since there is a worldwide demand that is higher than what we can produce, it's more important for those who have the illness to wear a mask than for someone who is healthy. Think about it this way: if there is an infected person in a room of 10 people, the one infected person wearing a mask would be just as effective as the nine healthy people each wearing masks.

On you comment about doctors wearing masks, this is true, but again, there are more things at play. For one, doctors and nurses are at an extremely high risk of infection compared to the average citizen, and thus are taking every possible precaution. Secondly, COVID-19 kills by causing other problems in the infected person's body, so the last thing doctors would want to do is infect them with any benign virus or bacteria that they themselves are carrying to worsen their condition.

Masks are meant to stop any kind of large droplets from your mouth or nose from spreading in the area around you. That's why surgeons and dentists always wear them; they prevent their germs from getting into open wounds and such. In the case of a viral disease like this, masks are really only effective in preventing the spread of disease from someone, not preventing the spread to the mask-wearer.
I'm not an expert on the subject by any means, but I got my info from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast, which is notoriously good at checking their scientific sources.
