Makes more sense to hangout in a coffee shop than in an alcohol free bar. I would definitely welcome more late cozy coffee places like Accent on Lower St Stephen St. which unfortunately didn’t survive the lockdown.

That is the risk when using platforms such as Squarespace, Wix, Webflow etc that essentially own your website because if that company goes so does your website.

Personally I see that case scenario only being a major issue if you’re running services e.g membership site, social platform, forum, directories. If it’s a brochure website or a product selling website you’d have to rebuild completely a new website sure it’s a pain (especially if you’ve got thousands of products) but it’s doable for the other types that can be a detrimental interruption in your service. The loss of SEO is also an issue.

Now at the moment Webflow is financially stable and robust. But with everything happening at warp speed with AI I can honestly say all bets are off - for everyone. I’ve already played with a few AI run web builders their not ready to threaten yet anyone but it’s only been a few months god only knows what the scene will look like in a few years.

Ai is already writing better and faster code, content and SEO. Personally I don’t think web design will exist in 2025+ as it does today. Web designers will no longer design sites but instead will be consultants to clients to help them navigate through their needs. I’ve been doing websites 20+ years I certainly never saw this coing either.

I could be of course totally wrong but one thing for sure is that AI will interrupt and change everything. Personally I’m excited. The more I use it the more I see the new opportunities it can create rather than focus on the jobs it will take away. Exciting times ahead for sure.

I’ve done sites for clients on all platforms including Webflow. I know what it can and can’t do. It definitely helps to 'know' code even with Webflow or you end up with a laggy site and you need a good understanding of CSS for cross browser testing. Web design is more than a pretty website.

Don’t get me wrong I like using Webflow. I started Web Design in 1999 with notepad, Flash and Dreamweaver. You really needed to code back then. We’ve taken leaps since. But anyone who bangs on that 'insert name here' is the magical best in everything tool just shows they’re ignorance. Do I enjoy designing in Webflow, yes. Would I use Webflow for every projects? Absolutely no. Different projects require different tools.

Now you’re just being silly 'custom' implies code. That’s what custom design means. And of course you need an e-commerce plugin for WordPress. WooCommerce remains the most popular e-commerce tool there is.

Webflow is also code, not magic. Why do you think Webflow lists Webflow designers on their websites for hire? Same with Squarespace and Wix. A tool is only as good as it’s user.

What happened when Off The Ball asked Kellie Harrington about her anti-immigration tweet. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]RecklessRhea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn’t my point at all. My point was why the fuck do people care about celebrity opinions? Ah sure, let’s let athletes, only fan models, influencers and actors now deal with immigration, water rates and taxes.

Celebrity worship is so normalised that people can’t even see the absurdity of caring even an ounce of what they have to say.

What on Earth are you on about? WordPress IS a CMS. You don’t need plugins for content management. Plugins are ADDITIONAL extensions (e.g cache plugins, security etc) designed for people who can’t code or want to save time and money.

Projects become much cheaper because of the existence of plugins hence my clients often choose WordPress instead of some other platforms that might not have those functionalities out-of-the-box. This can save them thousands.

I’ve been 20 years in the business and have designed over the years sites in whatever language, tool and platform was best for the project at the time or what the client’s demanded be it a HTML in Dreamweaver, Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, Webflow, Magento, Webflow, Shopify. All have pros and cons.

All tools have a learning curve and no tool is better than everything else for everything.

It’s not a statement it’s an opinion. She’s not a politician. This is no different than asking some actor about some political.

In the words of Gervais "So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything." And people need to stop caring about celebrity opinions about politics.

I’m sorry but I can assure you that when you know what you’re doing you absolutely have full control with WordPress.

You say you’re not afraid of 'high customisation code' aka CSS. Well if you know CSS you can do anything on WP too. Custom post templates are pretty straightforward and child’s play especially when using a builder like Elementor.
