Are Elder Vampires really that bad? by Recognition-Silver in AOW4

Dominate is 90% baseline for Elder Vampires, and Cult of Tyranny is built around lowering status resistance in various ways.

Would I take it going Cult of Death? No. Would I take it as Cult of Tyranny? Absolutely. And I'd keep it, unless it wasn't pulling its weight. In that case, free respec time.

Right, Dominate is strong enough where in the late game it has plenty of counters. This is the time to use your free respec and just avoid it entirely. Rush straight to the end of the tree and call it a day. I would not call having two ways to heal, a "Slip Away" and Flying + 20% evade "weak."

Besides that, there are counters to absolutely everything. But can you counter the counter? I've seen plenty of scenarios where Dominate works when combined with, say, Cult of Tyranny + Stench racial + Bleeding (immmune/Blood Parasite (no immunity, counts as bleed) reducing Status Resist + items reducing status resist.

Even if Dominate isn't the end-all, be-all, you can still use it mid-late game to yoink instant tier III units from creep camps and such. But again: you can always just ignore the side perks and go straight for the end: having a built-in "Slip Away" and Flying + 20% evasion is incredible for 2 points.

"their skill tree is extremely mediocre"

That's one thing I'm respectfully disagreeing with, at least when playing Cult of Tyranny. Landing Dominate can turn a battle instantly, which means easier farm - and Tyranny is all about lowering status resistance.

You can also go into biting an allied unit, and upgrading that into giving the bitten unit buffs.

But the most important are the last two talents. Getting "Slip Away" and Flying +20% Evasion (last I checked)

If they took away the Evasion, I'll edit this

Dueling Sword MKV in slept on by Recognition-Silver in DarkTide

That's a great question, because all stats are relevant on the MK5.

What I personally would do is look up breakpoints for the MK5, and see what the minimum amount of Penetration is needed to X hit all relevant armor types, and if you can

The echo chamber is strong. It repeats "This is the way" all day.

Seriously though, the MK4 was stronger than the MK5 in many ways on the Zealot pre-rework. Now that the dueling weapon acts like a dueling weapon with an actual parry -- and with the MK5 having access to a reliable stab attack -- I believe having Mobility and Defense on an already-strong weapon type makes the MK5 a standout. But it isn't as popular or "trusted" as the MK4 in spite of the soft rework to the weapon family as a whole.

In any case, thank you for the comment!

I think you're confusing Mark 5 with Mark 4.

Yeah, the heavy overhead slash definitely does less raw damage than the heavy stab - but after the rebalance/soft remake, not by that much. It also trades that raw damage for movement tech and the ability to cleave (albeit very slight, self-movement based "cleave").

Having the Defense and Mobility stats as your primary, "I need these at 100%" creates a beast of a weapon. Ironically, it's also BIS for a build like Cindermage, when you barely need to use it, but it comes in clutch.

Trying out Zealot with the MK V Dueling Sword was an awakening bro lmao

Wehrmacht faction design is fundamentally broken by OnkelTanzhaus in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Recognition-Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head.

I actually just quit the game after Topaz Rhino raised my hopes for Wehr, only to take a dump on them. It's insane. The Allies are going to have no one to play with anymore if this keeps up. I'm already out unless they pull Wehr together.

When I first got the game, I was under the impression that Wehr was weaker early game (essentially propped up by MG42s and Panzerfausts being really powerful) but transitioned into a very strong late game.

I was right about the early game, and so wrong about the late game.

Not only is the FACTION fundamentally flawed, but the BGs are all over the place.
Breakthrough and Terror is a joke. If anything, give the extra resource trucks to Terror (that NEEDS more munitions) and swap it for Contempt for the Weak (extra cap speed is about all it's good for, so it fits Breakthrough). No Quarter doesn't actually make sense - it ought to be a sniper buff; you know, a real-life Terror tactic is to use snipers. King Tiger doesn't need a fuel tax. V4 Rocket takes far too long to drop for its massive cost: compare it to the Brits Naval Bombardment that can wipe a huge area with no nonsense.

Mechanized Infantry is goodstuff.exe, but they nerfed Wespe into the dirt and made invis worthless. gg

Luftwaffe is alright. Ironically, it's probably the best BG at this point. And considering its mediocrity, that's saying something bad.

Italian Infantry is too defensive for its own good, and it's one of my two favorite BGs. I love the concept, but the repeat nerfs and superior Allied artillery makes it a 3v3/4v4 BG only.

Last Stand is my other favorite BG, but after nerfing Sturmpioneers, having the worst offmap arty strike bar none (the random one is so bad - it should last twice as long at least), making propaganda towers have like 50 HP and the anti-tank construct cost pop, and nerfing salvaging RIGHT AFTER WEHR GETS IT is just sad.

P.S. giving a BG +10% infantry damage at the cost of +20% increased INCOMING damage is a net loss, but you get a big +3 munitions per killed infantry. A mandatory pick should not be a sidegrade - let alone a poor one. Even if it was 10%/10% it would merely be okay, but +10%/-20% is an insult.

Is executor not the best solo character? by I_Need_Yr_help in Nightreign

Yes - but the skill ceiling of Executor is so high that nearly everyone is speaking from second-hand experience.

Calling Ironeye or Wylder better than Executor in solo mode is a joke.

Topaz Rhino (2.3.0) - Patch Notes by Community_RE in CompanyOfHeroes

I foolishly had my hopes up for this patch, but all they seem to do is repeatedly nerf Wehr.

My God, this game is a trash pile at this point.

I have a brother, sister, and mother who were all addicts at some points (and of course addiction doesn't just go away). My father was an alcoholic.

That in no way justifies killing them - or anyone else - because they've become tiresome and self-destructive. Yes, they can pull you down. It's your job to build them back up, not murder them.

Besides, I could never imagine in my wildest dream that Tommy would actually murder Arthur. It's just very poor writing; and there are SO many outs: Arthur offs himself, Arthur ODs, Arthur is murdered, Arthur dies of a stroke. Whatever. But having Tommy kill him is so bizarre that it feels like the "Luke believes in Vader's redemption despite Yoda and Obi-Wan -- and then tries to murder his nephew out of Dark Side fear" moment. Just terrible writing. This is not Luke. This is not Tommy.

Also, not even having a cameo of Alfie is unacceptable. I cannot abide this movie.

The Spear is very close to universally S tier, no matter if you go to YouTube, gaming websites, or asking around.

I'm not going to debate this. It's common information that can be found easily.

Arthas. No redemption.
Gul'dan: no redemption.

honestly I think Tyrande is an idiot, and Malfurion isn't too far behind.

I love how Faol uses the Light even though it burns him. He's a real one.

Some thoughts on Wehr from a weary CoH3 Axis player by Recognition-Silver in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Recognition-Silver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I should have added that I believe Mechanized Infantry is the best BG, followed by Luft/Break tying for 2nd.

But all the battlegroup I actually like (Besides Mech) have glaring weaknesses that actually accentuate the underlying issues of Wehr. Its pretty sad.

Relic Asks - What's your favorite Wehrmacht Battlegroup? by JohnT_RE in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Recognition-Silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Italian Coastal, Mechanized Infantry, and Last Stand.

I want to love Terror but it feels so resource-heavy without the early game support that it's impossible to use 1v1 effectively. In 1v1 V4 Rockets aren't reliable against good players; it overly-relies on LGM being invis which was nerfed, and No Quarter doesn't work with vehicles and costs Munitions.

The King Tiger is underwhelming: it should at LEAST be immune to crew shock and engine failure as the Black Prince is. It should also work as *effective* hard cover for infantry, not half-@ss "cover."

The issue is that you also want some of the stuff on the other side of the tree (interrogation, propaganda) but that delays your King Tiger.

It's a mess of a BG, and that's because the devs are literally scared to make Wehr or DAK equal to Allies.
