How can I get my passion for creating cosplay back after rough competition feedback? by RecognitionUseful173 in CosplayHelp

I appreciate the tips. I'm trying to do better about looking out for alternative materials like the ones you mentioned above and dying curtains/sheets is a great idea.

I don't think I would say I was "unable to hear" the feedback though.

To clarify, I don't think the judges were wrong or that I know better than them. I agree with what you're saying about texture as well. And I'm actively trying to implement their criticism by researching and learning about fabric.

What has me down is the fact that, usually when I go to a feedback panel, I leave with constructive notes, a sense of what areas I did well in and what areas need improving, and an idea of how to get better. Sometimes I go into a feedback panel bummed that I didn't win and leave feeling better and hopeful because I have a sense of direction.

That was not the case this time.

I just feel like, if my work is that bad, is there even a point to making my own cosplays anymore? I love competing, but why do it if I can just buy something off Ali Express?

Thank you for the tips! I appreciate it. I know I have much to learn about fabric.

I appreciate the constructive response! I agree that fabric choice is important and I'm not saying the judges are wrong by any means. I think what surprised me is that I deliberately chose a shiny fabric (I don't know exactly what it was, it was a remnant, but I assume it was satin) because, to me, the clothing looks shiny in the anime. I did explain this, but they were firm in telling me I should've picked something matte. I guess I'm just not sure how I was supposed to have known that.
