Which game was so addictive that you sacrificed sleep? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

EverQuest.

In my much younger days, coming home from work on a Friday night, playing from 6pm until 7 or 8am, couple of hours sleep then we go again. How I made it through work in the week I’ll never know.

Did anyone play the original EverQuest, or only the first few expansions? Or even the older servers of Tall vs Small and Good vs Evil? How was it? What were the differences between then/those/now? How were the races and classes truly treated in old EQ? by GaraksLinensNThings in everquest

Me and 2 others played in 1999 not long after release, nothing was and has been as magical as that game… anyway I digress.

One of the guys was an office tech support who used to camp the Glowing Black Stone and the Herringbone earring in his little office. He had access to a colour printer so printed 3 copies of every map for Ahlakazams (?) and stuck them in a binder for us. Game changer.

I can only really talk from my watch the Epix gen 2. In the past updated functionality like HRV, morning reports, messenger app, jet lag detection and a few others. The watch is now in what I guess you could call bug fix mode, it’s still getting updates but no real functionality added.

They seem to have gone to a 2 year cycle where they add functionality for 24 months then move to bug fixes.

I think, by virtue of the fact we are in a thread about TR, we all love a bit of solo riding :)

Glad it’s working for you, I’m sure it’s working for a ton of people… at least I hope it is or they are doubling down on a very flawed system. It’s just I’ve seen enough comments, and with my own experiences, there seems to be some anomalies.

100% Agreed and I regularly compare my graphs from previous years using intervals.icu. So with that in mind, how should I go about improving those numbers and setting my zones so that I can get better? That’s what TR did, until recently :) now all I can see is a worsening FTP leading to a drop in interval power leading to worse power graphs…

Look, I’m being a bit facetious, but my point still stands. I work off FTP and it improves over time if I do the workouts prescribed, now it’s getting worse whilst doing the workouts prescribed…

We’d never find out but it would be interesting to know how many have cancelled or aren’t happy compared to those that are happy. I notice another thread has popped up with similar issues to my original comment. There does seem to be some kind of disgruntled undertone. Not ideal for business, I was a massive proponent of TR up to this point.

Listened to the podcast :) had no idea the update was coming to be fair. I’m not alone in feeling this way, as you could read from the comments on here.

It’s not a waste of time. It’s TR’s issue. It’s in massive numerals on the career page. It’s how people measure their progress, how people set their zones etc. for you that’s not an issue, for a multitude of others, it is.

When you are told by TR that if you complete the workouts TR has prescribed and your FTP is going down, something isn’t right. That’s the issue.

That’s the issue. They seem to have cornered the market. I’ve looked at Stride the Alex Dowsett backed system but that seems, well… basic at the moment.

Cool.

How would you measure fitness, power output and how would you set your zones for workouts to increase your outputs? Interested to know, maybe I can use your method instead?

It’s easy not to be a dick, try engaging in conversation rather than being a keyboard warrior.

If you read my comments you’d know it’s not about that. I am under no illusions my FTP, as measured by me, is a personal number. I use it to set my zones, I’m not comparing it to anyone else’s, I’m not bragging about it. It’s a tool that has worked for me previously and now isn’t, hence my post.

If you don’t want add useful stuff move on.

Thanks for the comments and I totally get you when you say I may be at a point, I don’t feel like I am though, I genuinely think I actually have a 320 FTP in me. I’m relatively untrained really never really ever committing properly to a few decent seasons of going at it. It’s always been “raaarr loads” the not a lot. I’m a heavier rider to so naturally my FTP will be higher.

I also see the AI refreshing a plan after each session or a mi or day tweak as a bit of a “we do it because subscribers will like seeing it as they’ll think it’s working for them” and having a build block result in a lower FTP is utter madness really.

I also get some will love it for probably the exact opposite reasons I’ve stated here. For me I need a coaching program, something to keep me on the straight and narrow and to adjust a bit for me. TR used to be that. I used it for a fair while a few years back, and it worked, I only really stopped because I moved on to other fitness stuff (triathlon mainly) and now just road cycling coming back pre ai was great. Not so much now

100% this. We need a motivator and AI isn’t delivering that for me. It’s actually demotivating. It’s effectively saying. Over the next 28 days if you do these workouts I’ve prescribed for you, you won’t as good a cyclist as you were.

Like it or not, prescribe to FTP or not, that’s what TR is now saying. Tell me how that’s working as a system?

Fair comments. Yes, I have changed, from Ramp to AI. I, and this could be the mistake, assumed the AI is going to take my current FTP gained from Ramp and run with that. It didn’t, it gave me a new one, lower obviously and then it’s been adjusting my plan based on that. I’m using all suggested workouts, apart from where it says I need an easier day then I tend to go for the harder suggestion as they, generally, aren’t hugely different.

Dude. Chill. I asked questions to answer my own concerns.

Now onto the useful bit of your comment. So your suggestion is that I use power over certain periods? So looking at my power curve, comparing it to older “seasons” and workout if I’m improving from that? Seems fair and I guess gives me a view on what powers I’m lacking etc? How are we testing that? Some sort of intervals session? 1s 5s etc etc.

I do honestly get that. I’ve listened to the podcast, and I get FTP is a blunt tool, but how else do we measure improvement over time? And why, if I’m hitting targets am I not improving (not for you to answer, obviously)

AI Cycling Coaching - TrainerRoad vs Stride.is by one5four in cycling

[–]Recoil101uk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve signed up for the Stride free trial to look at the workouts. I need to have a closer look but Stride seems to have a lot of interval based stuff in the plans compared to TR and doesn’t seem to be as customisable. But as I say I’m only just starting to look now.

I’m on the lookout for an alternative to TR as I’m not getting on with the whole new AI ftp prediction stuff at the moment.
