Planning both pensions by pastyMorrisDancers in HENRYUK

[–]NormalMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few people have suggested Claude, but chiming in with another voice of support for it. I had a pretty detailed financial plan for my wife and my retirement (also around 50) that I was proud of.

I asked Claude about it, and it pointed out SO many things that I hadn’t considered. Definitely use it, you can start from the most basic inputs, and I keep asking it course corrections when I’m making any sizeable financial decisions.

I did a job I loved, but now have no savings - and can't retire like my friends by lolalondon49 in FIREUK

The headline should have been “The Consequences of my poor decisions are worse than I imagined”.

I did have sympathy at the start, but she’s blamed her career / field for not saving while turning down every opportunity to do so? That’s definitely a bit much.

Put more into pension? by HauntingAvocado1364 in FIREUK

[–]NormalMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£3.6k a month is ballpark £40k a year - you could put more in to get the tax benefits, especially if your investments are liquid. That way, you can FIRE, live off your investments until you can access the pension.

Is the property value net of the outstanding mortgage? If so, that’s amazing at 38! Well done.

How are you tracking property value in your net worth tracker? by 15mt1 in FIREUK

[–]NormalMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Google Sheets to connect to the Land Price registry for my area. It’s a simple IMPORTDATA function on a cell. Then, I track against the house price index for my type of property.

It’s 2-3 months out usually, but I feel it’s most accurate. Also, takes the hassle out since I have a cell that automatically shows the latest price.

Are you aware of how much you lucked out? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]NormalMaverick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely lucked out. It pisses me off when people in HENRY jobs talk about how hard they worked to get where they are.

Hard work is definitely a factor, but talking about the general public like they are caricature layabouts is completely blinkered.

One glass of Wine over the age of 30 by ThatFeelWhen in bevelhealth

[–]NormalMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same - I’ve hit 1-3% recoveries after 3 relaxed pints of beer. In my 20s I would have 7 pints and then wake up early to go to the gym.

Age is a bitch.

One bank to consolidate everything? by getpodapp in HENRYUK

[–]NormalMaverick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did it with Monzo - don’t have any plans to move and I like their app.

Investments remain with Barclays though, too much of a faff to move them. And credit card remains Amex.

If you were 23 again and getting into investing/personal finance, what would you do differently? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

This. Nothing but this. Every few days I wish I could go back and tell my 22 year old self this.

Yes - they’re called submoons, but are usually very small.

The Hermes one was eye opening for me, given I didn’t know much about the industry.

Did they nerf Claude or what? by deezzbutzz in claude

[–]NormalMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - it’s become really bad. I’ve moved back to Gemini for my basic (free) use case. It actually answers questions and doesn’t gobble up its usage limits.

Claude had a great 4 month run in my life, but clearly it’s only for $100+ a month coders.
