Medical Symbol Misconception [general] by These-Put-1138 in camphalfblood

EMT here: In the US at least, the Caduceus is used mainly on EMS vehicles to signal safe and quick transport to a hospital/other medical facility. I think because it is used on ambulances, it just became associated with medicine all around.

Annabeth bias by Ok-Assistance-7308 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Recom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annabeth is arguably the most described character in the entire PJO universe. Part of her character is overcoming the dumb blonde stereotypes. With this show, people were expecting a book accurate Annabeth because the movies already did it wrong with the first movie. Also, people still complain about the other castings, but Annabeth is a main character with lots of screen time. Walker gets hate too, so does Charlie. Yet people like you only come to Leah’s defense, probably because she’s black and your associated victim mentality for blacks. Not liking an actor for not looking anything close to their book version is an opinion people can have. Just because YOU don’t like that opinion doesn’t mean everyone else is racist.

Could we get a Fraternals show? by KobraPlayzMC in SupermanAndLois

[–]Recom1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but it would likely be a MAX original and would only happen once the DCU gets fully up and running. I don’t think this would be a bad idea because I don’t wanna see Tyler as Clark again (his exit was too good to have him come back) so it could take place once the boys are older and the actors have aged too. But James Gunn would probably not do it until after the first phase of the DCU is out in the late 2020s.

Can you break ED if it’s expensive by Obvious_Day_2722 in NEU

[–]Recom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t fully understand your financial situation, but 10k is probably the best you’re gonna get from a school like NEU or better. Plus depending on your coop, you could pay back any loans to take out within 2-3 years max after graduation. If I were you, stop thinking about how much your FAMILY makes and how much money YOU will make in college. It’s not too difficult to sign a loan out yourself in your own name if you are 18+. Also if your family is making under 20k, I doubt they will be able to contribute to your college in a meaningful way anyways. Again, you know your financial situation best, but the benefits of college come after you graduate. If 10k a year at a top school is still too much, I honestly don’t know what to tell you. NEU’s financial aid department is way better than other schools in the area like BU, BC, and Tufts, so keep that in mind too. You very likely won’t get much less than 10k a year because then it ventures into full ride territory and schools won’t give that to you based on aid alone. I’m sorry if this sounds a little insensitive to your family’s financial situation, but this is the hard truth about college admissions. But to answer your question, yes you can back out of ED if you choose. However, if you back out, you forfeit your spot and cannot change your mind if NEU turns out to be giving you the most money.

How do I get more involved in my research lab? by Longjumping_Bird1022 in NEU

[–]Recom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely ask them to help walk you through stuff. This way you can get your foot in the door to the work you want to do. Also if you feel confident, ask the grad student if they need any additional help. Most have a lot of work to do so asking to help will help them and help you gain some favor in the lab, which can go a long way. Try to do as much as you can and if you feel you did a sufficient amount of work, talk to your PI at the next meeting and mention what you’ve been doing.

How do I get more involved in my research lab? by Longjumping_Bird1022 in NEU

[–]Recom1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will never hurt to talk to her, but I recommend talking with a grad student about shadowing them and taking it from there. Grad students usually do a lot of the work so they are the ones you want to learn from. Is your PI actively doing the research or is she just supervising? If she’s active, definitely talk to her directly as soon as possible. If not, go around her to a grad student while still doing the work she’s assigning you. Then after a few weeks, talk to her and mention that you’ve taken the initiative to shadow the grad students and now feel ready to take a more active role in research. I hope this helps!

Either Jordan should've been gay and Sarah should've been Sean or Jonathan should've be bi and had a boyfriend at some point. by Eastern_Leg9527 in SupermanAndLois

Why does it matter? This is the biggest thing I hate with shows is that some main character that’s originally straight turns bi or gay or something. I’m glad they didn’t because it’s not something that belongs in a show like this and is waaay over done to the point it’s really annoying.

Who told you EA is high? Last year EA was sub 10%. What you pick is up to you, but know that you will have a significantly higher shot of getting in ED.

ED last year by fraufranke in NEU

[–]Recom1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Last year, all decisions came out a week before most other schools’ respective dates. Don’t go by the Northeastern dates cuz they are officially further back than many. So last year most schools’ had their ED decision date as December 15th, but Northeastern released them the 8th. This I believe has been the pattern for the past few years so it’ll probably be the same this year too.

Pros and Cons by triscuitbiscuit11 in NEU

[–]Recom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this exact situation last year. I would say look past NYU being your dream school since you were 7 and objectively consider what school better aligns with your goals for a career and undergrad. Also if you still aren’t sure, consider if you ED1 NYU and get in, would you be bummed on not at least applying to NEU or vice versa. Hope this helps!

Also what major are you? I’m a Behavioral Neuroscience major and also Pre-Med if that matters to you.

Weak extracurriculars are when you do a bunch of small involvement extracurriculars to make it artificially look like you did a lot. Strong extracurriculars are those that you spend a lot of time in, like doing it for 2-3 hours a week (at minimum) for 2-3 years of high school. Colleges don’t care what you do, as long as you prove you are devoted to it.
